Hi everyone!! I'm a NC native, animal lover and writer. We have worked with many rescue animals others have considered a lost cause, and the rescues that have ADOPTED US instead of being adopted out have some stories full of warm fuzzies.

My hubby and I are owned by two lil dogs (one rescued from a high kill shelter who had been so starved that food intake put her body into shock and nearly killed her), a pair of special needs rescued turtles and a (who WE actually adopted from a rescue) Quaker. I believe the previous years of abuse have seriously altered his mental state and that he is clinically insane. He has grown back feathers on wings and tail but belly folicles have been so damaged that he'll most likely be our beloved plucked chicken forever. His favorite things are watching Jurassic park and lunging at everyone he doesn't know, then laughing and saying "Georgie good boy".

We will soon be adopting (anyone notice a pattern?:p) a 6 year old moluccan and are absolutely excited! The poor baby had been left in a tiny cage for three weeks in an abandoned house until the landlord heard screaming. We can't wait to get her home, trim up her sadly overgrown beak and even more depressing nails, I can't see how the poor girl grips a branch! Then it's on to the cuddles, training, and the beginning of earning her trust! I can't wait to get the okay that she's medically all right so we can put her cage in the same room, I know Georgie will love squawking to something other than the wild birds outside. (He does do a good crow impression, though.)

I look forward to talking to and sharing stories with all of you!

Welcome! :)Your house sounds like a safe place for the needy...good for you!

Hi and welcome to the forum, congratulations on your new upcomming fid, and Kudos for going the way of adoption, unfortunatly there are way to many of our feathered friends that need our help, hope you enjoy your stay :)

Welcome (new myself)! Writer? I think it's interesting how you describe your Quaker.

A very warm welcome to your are your family. People that go the way of adoption are very special people. On top of that you are adopting a bird that is difficult to place. Moluccans are alot of fun but do require total devotion of their guardian. I just put this in another thread-- My bird club trainer said they are like birds that have the keys to dad's corvette on a Sat. night. I wish you all the luck and we are here for you should you have any questions.
