- Pineapple Green Cheek Conure: Loki | Mauve Budgie: Sturm | Violet Green Budgie: Raine | White-Faced Cockatiel: Shade *Gone but not forgotten*
Hi, everyone!
To be honest I am excited about joining this forum. I have wanted to join a forum for parrot owners but previous experiences with forums and me being very shy have prevented me from doing so. However, this morning I found a thread on this forum through Google. I liked what I read in the thread and decided to browse the forum. It seems to be a good friendly drama free forum. The last forum I left was full of drama. It seems these days a lot of sites are full of drama.
Anyways about me and my baby girl!
I have grown up with pet birds. I have owned some type of pet bird since the age of 7. In the past, I have owned parakeets, a lovebird, cockatiels, finches and now own a pineapple green cheek conure Loki.
Loki has quite the little attitude! She'll walk around on her cage with her little chest puffed out strutting around. She'll also do what my parents and I call "swaying". She'll hang on to the edge of the cage and weave around with her head and neck feathers puffed out. Letting us know who's boss. haha When I'm talking to my parents she'll chime in every once in awhile.
I've had good strong bonds with birds in the past but Loki makes me feel quite special.
She squawks when I leave the house and doesn't like other people around me when she's sitting on my shoulder. She'll eat 'with' me, get excited and talks when I am excited and screeches when I raise my voice when I'm upset. Sometimes she'll fly off her cage after me, she preens my hair as she loves my hair, when she sits on my shoulder she'll snuggle up against my neck leaning against me talking to me. She even dances and laughs with me! She can also talk but not very well. haha She says "what?" in different variations. She also says her name which is so adorable. She can imitate sounds very well but talking not so much. hehe
Loki isn't like most other conures. From what I've read anyways. Loki doesn't like to be touched. She doesn't let me hold her at all or even scratch her head. I've never been able to do these things in the two years I've owned her. I've tried a few times to scratch her head but she tries to bite me. haha So I've just left her alone. Which is fine as I'm not much of a touchy-feely person myself. What she and I do instead is she'll sit on my shoulder leaned against me occasionally preening my hair and softly talking to me as I sit or walk around. I'm completely fine with that. I get birds for the companionship more than anything else.
I am diagnosed with several mental health disorders and call me crazy but I think Loki knows when I'm having a particularly rough time. There's been several occasions she's come to me on her own when I've had an attack of some kind. I'm able to recall several occasions where I've had a panic attack and she came to me on her own. She was able to calm me down when nothing else but medication could.
Last week I sprained my back and was in pain. She heard me and started raising a raucous that could wake the dead every time she heard me. I was in my room and her cage is very close to my bedroom door. She was trying very hard to see into my room after I had grown quiet. Afterwards, when I was finally able to get off the bed where she could see me she was watching me very closely.
Sorry for the length but I am very excited to finally find a place where I can talk about my passion for parrots and especially about Loki. I hope to become an active member of the forum and interact with other owners. Birds are my favorite animals especially parrots. I'd love to learn about other types of parrots and give advice if I can.
