Pineapple Green Cheek Conure: Loki | Mauve Budgie: Sturm | Violet Green Budgie: Raine | White-Faced Cockatiel: Shade *Gone but not forgotten*
Hi, everyone!

To be honest I am excited about joining this forum. I have wanted to join a forum for parrot owners but previous experiences with forums and me being very shy have prevented me from doing so. However, this morning I found a thread on this forum through Google. I liked what I read in the thread and decided to browse the forum. It seems to be a good friendly drama free forum. The last forum I left was full of drama. It seems these days a lot of sites are full of drama.

Anyways about me and my baby girl!

I have grown up with pet birds. I have owned some type of pet bird since the age of 7. In the past, I have owned parakeets, a lovebird, cockatiels, finches and now own a pineapple green cheek conure Loki.

Loki has quite the little attitude! She'll walk around on her cage with her little chest puffed out strutting around. She'll also do what my parents and I call "swaying". She'll hang on to the edge of the cage and weave around with her head and neck feathers puffed out. Letting us know who's boss. haha When I'm talking to my parents she'll chime in every once in awhile.

I've had good strong bonds with birds in the past but Loki makes me feel quite special.

She squawks when I leave the house and doesn't like other people around me when she's sitting on my shoulder. She'll eat 'with' me, get excited and talks when I am excited and screeches when I raise my voice when I'm upset. Sometimes she'll fly off her cage after me, she preens my hair as she loves my hair, when she sits on my shoulder she'll snuggle up against my neck leaning against me talking to me. She even dances and laughs with me! She can also talk but not very well. haha She says "what?" in different variations. She also says her name which is so adorable. She can imitate sounds very well but talking not so much. hehe

Loki isn't like most other conures. From what I've read anyways. Loki doesn't like to be touched. She doesn't let me hold her at all or even scratch her head. I've never been able to do these things in the two years I've owned her. I've tried a few times to scratch her head but she tries to bite me. haha So I've just left her alone. Which is fine as I'm not much of a touchy-feely person myself. What she and I do instead is she'll sit on my shoulder leaned against me occasionally preening my hair and softly talking to me as I sit or walk around. I'm completely fine with that. I get birds for the companionship more than anything else.

I am diagnosed with several mental health disorders and call me crazy but I think Loki knows when I'm having a particularly rough time. There's been several occasions she's come to me on her own when I've had an attack of some kind. I'm able to recall several occasions where I've had a panic attack and she came to me on her own. She was able to calm me down when nothing else but medication could.

Last week I sprained my back and was in pain. She heard me and started raising a raucous that could wake the dead every time she heard me. I was in my room and her cage is very close to my bedroom door. She was trying very hard to see into my room after I had grown quiet. Afterwards, when I was finally able to get off the bed where she could see me she was watching me very closely.

Sorry for the length but I am very excited to finally find a place where I can talk about my passion for parrots and especially about Loki. :) I hope to become an active member of the forum and interact with other owners. Birds are my favorite animals especially parrots. I'd love to learn about other types of parrots and give advice if I can.

Here's a photograph of my little girl!

Sounds like you have a good friend in that little bird. And yeah conures are known for being cuddly you never know till you get them home (not all cats are cuddly).

Welcome to you :)

Thank you for the welcome! I do have a good friend in her. ^-^ She's out in the living room so we spend a lot of time together.

Awesome to see that you've got a green cheek as well. Like the name Pazu. :)

See you around the forums!

Hello, and thank you JerseyWendy and Allee for the welcome!

Thank you both! I always say she is the color of the rainbow. haha

I have quite a few tales to tell of Loki. I just need to figure out where the appropriate place is to share my adventures. I already have a question as well that I'll get around to posting as well.

Lovely birds you both have by the way! They are all very beautiful.

I love this forum already. :)

Welcome welcome welcome! Awesome history, and such a beautiful baby! FYI, the difference between you and me? I am still undiagnosed!
My Jojo is also a very un-touchy bird. But what I have found is she loves having her beak rubbed and sometimes while I'm rubbing her beak I can scratch her for maybe five seconds on her head. JoJo is my life, she is basically my only companion! End of April, my now oldest daughter is getting married and I will have to leave JoJo with others for 4-5 days(in my house)! I am totally freaked over the wedding, but even more so over how JoJo will feel!

Again, you are so, so welcome! You landed in an awesome forum!

Hi, Flboy! Thank you for the welcome. :) I've had a hard time the last few years with my mental health. I'm so glad I've had Loki these last two years. She's helped me get through them.

The only time I can touch Loki is when she is scratching her head. She does her own head scratching. hehe Only then can I sneak my finger in there and scratch her head. However, it doesn't take her long to figure out it's me then she tries to bite me. haha

I know exactly what you mean. Outside my family Loki is my only companion so I consider her not only my little baby but a best friend as well.

I freak getting out of the house. Not my yard but going out to town or wherever so I rarely leave the house. Which means I hardly leave Loki. When I do leave her for a day or longer I get nervous. Especially when I go down to Texas to be with my sister for a couple weeks is when I really freak out. For myself but like you more so over Loki. I almost don't want to leave because I don't want to leave Loki all alone and am afraid how she'll be without me.

I have to agree with you about this forum!

Your JoJo looks stunning by the way. :)

Thank you! I have to admit, your post brought me to tears! Just understand, you are much stronger than a diagnosis!
I am high level support for my company, which works because I have a strong empathy type personality! But, because I feel what others feel, life can be tough!
--sorry, I just realized I am, possibly, doing the same thing now!!
Remember, you are 10 times stronger than you think, and you fake the rest!

I thought I'd show everyone photographs of Loki's cage set up. When we got Loki we got a display cage to go with her. I am almost pretty sure it is for a bigger bird. Like a sun conure or even an African Grey maybe? One thing I know her water and food bowl she can sit in! haha We figured it was better for it to be big than small.

When I was taking photographs she came out of her Coco and came to inspect what I was doing. She was following me everywhere and trying to check out the cell phone. What I mean by check out I mean get her beak on it! hehe

Her Coco, by the way, is the coconut. She loves it! That is her favorite toy. That's where she spends most of her time. Most of the time Loki sits in it scratching her head. :)

I think she's pretty brave to be sitting on the cage door like that! haha Afraid she'd fall I carefully and slowly moved it so she could get off it. I think she's braver than me. haha
