My name is Anna and tonight my mom and I became the new owners to my cousins parrot. Her name is Cleo. We have no idea what kind of a parrot she is or if she is really even a parrot lol. All we know is that she was 800 dollars. We are calling her mystery bird. The photo I hope I added correctly is of her with my aunt and uncle last year at a pirate themed party. Now her colors are much duller than in that picture. I hope someone out there can help us out a little bit in knowing what she is.

She looks like a senegal? But the head colors are off. Sens are one of my fav birds. They make great little companions!

Yes, her colors in that picture are much brighter than they are now. I spent a good hour looking at all kinds of bird pictures trying to find someone that looked like her and nothing. Now I am here asking the pros lol. She is a biter, one of the reasons the family got rid of her. We hope to make her a happy little bird again, in her own time.

Possibly a male red bellied parrot of the Poicephalus family. Definitely not a Senegal but of the same family. See here: Red-bellied Parrot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia If you look at the juvenile male in the picture you can see the red coming through on his head. If you compare it to my profile picture (my Senegal) you can see a huge difference.

Thank you all so much for all of your help!!! It means the world to me. Now we know who we have in our home! She or he lol is no longer a mystery bird.

What a beautiful girl she is! With time and lots of love and patience she can learn to trust you. It also will be helpful if you begin to learn how to read the body language of parrots to try to avoid bites. This website has tons of valuable information and many, many knowledgeable folks. Welcome and congratulations on your parrot!

Are you sure your cleo is a she and not a he? If you in fact have a red-bellied parrot, the males tend to have more red on them, like yours, whereas the females tend to be less red and diluted. I could be totally off base here but that's always what I told.

Looking forward to learning more about you and your new friend. Post some recent pics if you can. Oh and Welcome!

She is very diluted now. Almost all gray. In certain lights you can see were the orange coloring used to be. I tried getting a recent picture but she kept trying to attack my phone lol. I looked up red bellies and the female is spot on to what she looks like now. You all have saved me a headache lol I would of been searching forever on my own.

Well... you definately came to the right place. Great bunch of people on here. Btw it's not uncommon for Poi's to attack the cell phone. I have to pry mine off of it all the time. LOL that and my IPad. She likes to lick my screen, push buttons, and type things other than what I am typing and I can not read what she says. LOL

Male or female, eh I'm sure your going to enjoy her either way. You will know for sure if one day she lays an egg. Do you know how old she is? What kind of diet is she on?

I have what I think is a female Senegal, she is 7 months old. Poi's are a lot of fun.

$800 for a poi??? Sounds rather expensive for a rehomed bird... unless the price includes the cage and bird brand new? (maybe I'm just off basis, too!)

Anyway, she's lovely! And welcome to the forum! :)
