Reno~Umbrella Cockatoo
Hello everyone! My name is Lacey, and I am new to the forum! I have always dreamed of having a parrot to call my own ever since I was small. Finally my wish came true! I am owned by 1 DNA sexed male Umbrella Cockatoo named Reno! Reno was hatched July 15th, 2010, only 18 days before the birth of my 2nd child. The hatch date was especially important to me as it was the birthday of my late Grandpa who was my rock!

Reno is amazing! I was, in the beginning of my search, told that a cockatoo would be perfect for a first time owner! Since then, I found that statement to be false. A cockatoo is definately for a more advance owner, however with help and support from some amazing people, I am slowly learning!:) With that being said, I wouldn't train my Reno Dino for anything in the world!!

A few more things about myself... I am a proud mother of 2 angels! Caleb who is almost 5 and Lexi who is 1. I enjoy being with my babies, riding horse, scuba diving, softball, and spending time with my pets!!

wow you keep yourself busy :) an hello an welcome, oh pics please oh an storys of your too being naughty (makes me smile an feel better about my rather naughty nut!)

Thanks suebee! It does get rather hectic! Lol! I am going to have to figure out how to post some pictures on here! I am glad I came across this forum! I have been having a lot of issues with Reno mate bonding. He is great with me and usually good with other females as well. With guys, it is a completely differant story. He will be doing fine with a guy and then all of a sudden will try to bite them. If I have him, and someone walks by me and gets to close he will strike at them as well. Not sure what to do with that.

Welcome Lacey. If you go to the technical forum you will find directions for getting pics to this forum.

Welcome :) ! I know you will feel so much more confident with the information you will gain here on your bird ownership and care! I know I did in just a short time - all questions answered hehe ;)!

Can you tell me how you felt raising a baby bird and a baby human together was :22:? My husband and I want to get another bird, but we feel maybe it wouldn't be a good idea if we will have kids in the near future because of noise making during nap times etc. What was your experience? Our current bird :green: is quiet enough to forget I have a bird, so we are weary of changing that. I do so want another!

Thank you everyone! I love this forum already! QuackQuack, it was actually very not hard. For a cockatoo, Reno is actually very well mannered. He does get loud occasionally, but my kids are used to it. If he starts getting out of hand on his perch, I put him in his cage. I have done that from day one and will not acknowledge him when he is being obnoxious. The only way he will get my attention is if he says Hello or I love you so he gets nowhere when he's naughty!
