Allow me to introduce myself I hail from Ithaca NY I am 24 years old I like to joke around, have fun. My fiance, and I are currently interested in getting a Conure companion.

I'm new too and equally interested in conures although I live on the opposite side of the US. ;)

What kind of conure are you interested in? I'd love a sun but, seeing as I live in an apartment, I'm thinking a green-cheek might be better.

Hello again, Jokester. My Conures, Gem (male CBC) and Sam (female GCC) are the comedy team of our home and give us constant love, entertainment and enlightenment... well maybe the last is an a bit of an exaggeration. They do allow us a peek into the thinking of another species and we love them both a lot. Lots of difference between conures...plus and minus columns with each breed, so do your research. Since this is a bird you are sharing try to make sure both of you are looking for and choosing the addition to your family.Put as much energy and money as possible into finding the right cage. Big and safe, especially if bird is going to be on own. Parrots for Dummies book is good place to get guidance, there. We encourage taking a look at that book. Enjoy... this is a great place and we will be happy to follow your journey to parronthood.

I too am looking forward to getting a sun I have the space available for one, so I am looking twords that goal. Welcoem to the forum, and thank yo ufor dropping by.

The suns really are gorgeous and are what got me researching these birds myself!! Maybe if I didn't have to worry about neighbors so close I'd go for it (a little noise doesn't bother me) but out of courtesy I'm considering the GCCs. Those little green guys are really starting to grow on me!!

I first saw Conures on youtube, and I jut fell right in love with these birds, so I have been researching them, and I think one would work well with me seeings hoow I'm obsessed with clowns, and the book I have describes these birds as clownish lol.

Which book are you reading? I was going to go find "Parrots for Dummies" after work.

It's pretty bad: I'm seriously considering going out and buying a cage today, just to be ready when I get the bird, and I don't even have one picked out yet!! :p

I have a beginning cage from a previous bird, so I'm set untill I can afford the new one. We have a borders book store here, and there is a book section called pet bird. In this section is a book from the discovery channel called Conures. It's very helpful, and not too expensive either.

I'll have to check it out, I'm still in the research phase. As much as I'd love to plunk down the money for a pretty new shiny "toy" I want to be sure that this is what I want and, more specifically, what will work for me, as I don't intend to launch myself into a possible 20+ year committment willynilly. I held a 4 month old sun conure at a local Petsmart yesterday and it was precious, but I don't think I'll be going that route (pity, because that baby was CUTE!! Wanted to be held and played with, although it didn't know enough yet to step up).

Good luck with your research!!!
