I just thought I'd stop in and say hi and introduce myself.

I found this forum when I was searching for information about senegals, as my other half (henceforth referred to as MrC) and I were considering adopting one and before I made my final decision, I wanted to learn as much as I could in a short time. This website proved to be a goldmine of information not only about the potential new bird, but also for information regarding our other birds (particularly the threads about aggressive amazons and how to make friends if you're the non-favorite person).

I did wind up adopting the Senegal. We brought him home tonight. So far, between our previous knowledge and some of the ideas we got from the forums, all the birds are settling in quite nicely; far better than I'd expected!

So now we have a flock of 3. We have Goofy, a 31 year old yellow nape Amazon, Cookie, a 25 year old cockatiel, and now Leopold, a Senegal who's about 9.

I look forward to learning even more and getting to know everybody here.

Welcome :)
That sounds like an awesome wee flock - would love to see photos!

Welcome :)

Pictures? Of course I can share pictures!

Here's my new little guy, Leopold:

And Goofy, sometimes known as the Evil Attack Parrot (He adores MrC but I'm convinced he's plotting my untimely demise.) He's also a little chubby. We're working on that.

And Cookie, who prefers to spend his days staring at the wall. Poor guy, he's pretty elderly, and usually prefers his cage these days. When we take him out he just flies right back in.

Hi Beatrice and welcome! Your Fids are gorgeous:)
I'm so glad you joined us and I look forward to hearing more about you and your babies:)

Beatrice, Leopold is stunning, Congratulations! Goofy is adorable, love the warning sign on his door.

Have you had Cookie all his life, he looks like a sweetheart.

Goofy and Cookie are MrC's birds. I only moved in two years ago. Cookie was acquired as a young bird around 1993. MrC and his late wife were separated at the time and she got Cookie and two others for their daughters. They got back together in 1994. Cookie's cage mates have passed away since then, but he is still going pretty strong, even if he mostly just stands on his perch and stares at the wall.

MrC took in Goofy about 18 years ago. Goofy had been his brother in law's bird, but had decided he hated bil when puberty hit and never really changed his mind. When the bil had to move, he didn't want to take the noisy, Ill-behaved parrot into an apartment situation. MrC took him and is now Goofy is fiercely bonded to him and is now actually fairly well behaved and rather quiet most of the time. I spent the entire time we were dating plus the last two years living here working with him to at least come to a truce. Right now I can get him to step up on a stick for me and he will let me scritch his head and back if he is in his cage. He won't step up on my hand unless we are outside and MrC hands him to me, and won't let me scritch him at all if he's not in his cage. That's a huge amount of progress considering how nasty he was to me the first time I met him! It's been slow, but I'm patient. If something happened and MrC had to be away for some time, I'd be able to care for him properly, and I'm happy with that.
