Hi, I just took over care for my Dad's Blue Front Parrot as he is too sick to care for it anymore. I have met this bird several times over the years but I don't know it's age or sex. He's kind of edgy and doesn't talk but I still think he's pretty cool and want to give him the best life possible.

The things I was wondering are whats the best way to get him more comfortable with people. He'll go on my hand but wants to bits and chew it before he gets on. Is there any way to teach him to talk? I'm not sure of his age but if has to be at least 15-18. What type of toys do these birds enjoy? When he was at my Dad's all I noticed were chewed up boxes. Lastly, does anyone have any idea about the band on his foot? Its a silver, incomplete circle with the mark "ckc 723".

Thanks for any help!

If your hand is not steady he will grab a bit harder with his beak to ensure it's alright to step up on...

It takes time for him to bond with you so be patiance and go slowly forward. Just now i think he is not sure if he can trust you and is testing. When doing what you like him to do give him a "candy". Good luck and welcome !

thank you for taking on this bird :) and asking how best to keep it!

by sounds of it, this ones a shredder, so toilet roll, cereal type boxes, nothing too new to soon, for now

try stick training him, if the chewings bad, but don't use gloves

also whats yours and his routine? he'll probably go for another 20 or so years, so there is plenty of time for you both to get to know each other :)

pics please and welcome
