Hello, Baca here

Hello, my name is Baca and I have several pets. 2 dogs, several fresh water fish, 2 budgies, and 3 kids lol. Joining the forum as I just adopted a 2 year old(supposedly) budgie named Charlie which I've had for about one month. Today I got a second budgie, which we named Coco who is an albino. I'm a first time bird owner so I'm joining this forum for some advice and general knowledge.

Can I post my concern here or should I post it in another thread? If so please direct me. Anyways. My question is about night terror. I just purchased a second budgie today and when I covered them this evening around 11pm he started flying around frantically. I removed the cover and he seemed to calm down so I covered him again but he did the same thing a few minutes later. I read about leaving a night light on to help, but I figured I'd look for some help from people who are veteran bird handlers. Should I leave them uncovered? That's what I've done so far, it's about to be 3am. I've been covering the first budgie every night with no problem, all though he is much older 2+ years supposedly. What should I do?

and not sure if this applies to budgies too, but albino-animals usually have eye-issues/ poorer sight than the non-albinoos.
So... maybe Coco had issues with "lights out" because of that but I think it is more likely he/she is not used to being covered.

A new cage, a new home, new friends is a lot to take in.

Maybe just cover half the cage to start with? ( back to front or left to right does not really matter, just look at what your bird can handle.)
So Coco can get used to it step-by-step

Hi and welcome! Some birds are terrified by being covered! Our first little girl, Tango, totally flipped out if you ever covered her! Our present two insist on being covered at night.

Damn, didn't even think about the albino having issues such as bad eyes. I ended up doing a bit of what you suggested. I put a red LED night light in a socket about 5' away and left the bottom 6" of the cage uncovered so that some of the night light could shine in. Didn't seem to have any issues, at least to my knowledge. I stayed up till about 3am but when I go to bed, I put in ear plugs. My bird cage is in the living room. Woke up and Coco nor Charlie seem injured at all so I guess they slept through the night, thanks

As with all things parrot related, adapt, adapt adapt, and have change happen slowly if possible. 1/2 cover or even 1/4 at fisrt then a bit more every night Or have a night time cage in a spare quiet room w/no cover.
