I am from Sf and have 2 birds. I have raised a few Greys and just really love all birds. My question is a little complicated. I just picked up an Eclectus to finish hand feeding for a friend since I am home. I took it home in a tub but didn't get a real good look. After saying hello I noticed it was bald but had some feathers and was starting to grow some down. It seems to look different then other 7 week old Eclectus. I was hoping to actually get one but not if this one is sick and here. Can you let me know what you think.

So nobody has seen a baby like this? Just thought of pbfd. So I was just scared. I was told it was fine but I cannot endanger my little keets.

Re: Trying to find information about feathers

I'm sure more people with more experience will chime in when they can, but I'm thinking at 7 weeks this chick looks just fine. I don't think it would have all it's feathers yet at such a young age.

I'm not an Ekkie owner (maybe Kinny can jump in since she has just raised a male eclectus) but it could be that he's just developing at a slower rate.

Re: Trying to find information about feathers

Amanda's right, that chick does not appear to be fully feathered yet...and...parrots don't have hair...even their eyelashes are feathers, not hair.....

Were just two chicks from the same clutch housed together or were there any older chicks in the same cage? Some times older chicks will pluck younger ones & your pic shows pin feathers coming in.....be patient, birds are not like some babies & pop out with a full head of hair ! ! !

Oh good I was really worried about pfbd since he had no down feathers. His front shows very little pin feathers.
