blue/green indian ringneck "Peanut"
Hi All
My experience starts in Durban when we moved into a friend’s yard (lived in a caravan). He had Indian ringnecks, I use to feed them, clean there cage and made sure they had water. He had finely decided to give me and my sister a yellow ringneck to hand raise. We named him Noddy
When we moved to a smaller town, in the eastern cape at the age of 14teen, my dad bought me and my twin sister two sets of green ringnecks and some cocktails :grey:, we would hand raise them and sold them but never kept one because we still had Noddy. I started to work from home; I would put Noddy outside in his cage under the car port. Never knew how cleaver hawks were, he was killed in front of me, I was just too slow to stop it. I sold all my birds because I moved into a smaller house with no yard and had nowhere to keep my birds. At the age of 22 I have gotten married and my husband is not a big fan of birds, or animals but we have agreed on me getting a ringneck. Been 6years after I lost Noddy and sold all my birds
I will be getting a blue ringneck :blue2: at the end of the month... yippy :D, I am looking forward to this website to help me with my new bird. This will be the first bird I have own by myself, will not have my mom and dad to help me and make sure that I am doing every right....

Thanks

Welcome! I have been drawn to ringnecks here lately, they have such cute little voices. People here are very helpful and there is a section just for your chosen bird. Are you getting it at the end of the month because it is a baby that is being weaned? I do hope you will post some pictures when your new bird comes home.

I am to believe I will still have to hand raise it, but should be only two feeds a day still, I just about have everything for my new little baby. It was very hard to find ringnecks in the area I live so I am very excited . My husban is starting to warm up to the idea of a bird in the house.

Welcome from 1 South African to another

So sad what had happened to Noddy.......unfortunately quite a few members have endured the same tragic ending for their birds.
Where are you purchasing your new baby from? just curious.
Are you still living in the Eastern Cape?
Ps... my two sons were born in Durban, Amanzimtoti
We now live in Alberton, Gauteng.

Keep us posted, adding pic's as well
Enjoy the forum

Hi my name is Debbie Nortjé and I live in Cape Town and my husband Marc bought me a Senegal parrot for Christmas.

His name is UNO and he is 4.5 months old and the most affectionate little angel and just wants to be cuddled and played with. We love him so much and he has grabbed our hearts with full force!

I would like to know if we are feeding him the right stuff:
AviPlus pellets
AviPlus seeds but we take out the black sunflower seeds and only give him the white ones. Are white sunflower seeds ok for him? They say the black are bad for their liver.
Fruit - we have a skewer that we fill and leave in his cage for him to pick at. Apple, blueberries, mulberries, cucumber, tomato, chili, lichees.
Veggie mash just for something extra at night, served warm.

If his beak is peeling a little is this because he is growing or what?
We spray him with feather and beauty spray twice a week.

His cage is never closed and we attach tree branches to his cage for fun so he can play with new branches every week and never gets bored. We also take him out with us on errands and make sure he gets to play outside somewhere new everyday, like a tree outside or on the grass while we are swimming.

The breeder clipped his wings quick radically and we were wondering will they ever grow back?

Thanks and looking forward to any responses.
Debs and Marc Nortjé :)
