ARE YOU SERIOUS??????
No Replies........

i am sorry for no replies tarryn, but i am in the uk so i can't be of much help

only solution i can think of is a covered hot water bottle or the heat rocks lizzards have?? oh i've read great things about UV lights for bords and plus they throw out alot of heat to

my nut just sits on the radiator every now an again

I bought one from Windy City Parrots. However due to repeated episodes of pressure sores on my birds feet I did not keep it. I even wrapped the thing in vet tape as suggested by my vet and that did not work either. Think twice before putting out the money. My bird loved the perch so she sat on it all the time.

Why don't you use a heat lamp instead? It will provide him 24hrs a day heat, the bird will adjust sleeping time. I would place lamp on one side of the cage while cover the other side with a towel. So if she wants to be away from the heat she can.

I own a heated perch. Bought mine off of e-bay. The bird doesn't like it though... Cost me 30 or 40 bucks and does work, but its a hard plastic and my pionus does not like the feel of it. I'd suggest a heated panel for the back of the cage. Or as Mikey said: a heat lamp would work great.

What about a heat mat it can be attached to the side of the cage & Twilight would be able to move close to snuggle when she/he gets to cold or move away if to warm. I know you can get them in Australia as some breeders use them in the brooder boxes for young chicks.

Brooder heating mat.Medium - 20W. - Listing # 6576

A link to explain. Hope it helps.

Thats not much different from a heat pad we sell here. To me I would be wary of using it because I would be afraid of my birds chewing on it. With the heat lamp option you can position it so they can't reach it. By placing it on one end and cover up the other end with a towel prevents heat loss as it can dissipate very quickly. Using a heat pad on babies is one thing, but on a adult bird would be a different story. That is my own opinion! As Pedro is very knowledgeable of his stuffs.

Good point Mike. I must admit i don't use heat mats myself i use a brooder box with a heat light. That's maybe a better choice for Tarryn's Bub. Especially if it was really cold & would be a nice cosy place for Twilight to sleep at night.

For birds to big for the brooder i just have a heater fan, but would be a bit expensive to run.

I wasn't real sure how bad Twilights symptoms were. Seeing Tarryn is unsure of the sex of her baby i just assumed it was still young.

To Pedro.
Twilight is 1 year 4 moths and 2 weeks to be exact.
i seem to think "She" is now a "He" because there is a light grey ring forming.
With Twilights disease, she/he has lost feathers on his/her chest and also lost all the feathers of that beautiful tail they are known for.
So my main worry is kepping him/her warm in winter.
I am, however, worried about a heat lamp as i dont want it to burn him/her.
i will post a picture of my baby as soon as i can ger one on my pc.

Thanks a mill.

And thanks to all the other replies i got.

oh ya, p.s Twilight is not a cage bird.
She only goes into her cage to eat and to sleep, the other times she is on her cage and on her tree stump. (ill post pics)
so im mainly worried about her at night.
if i do put a heat lamp on the outside of her cage, she will however still have access to it.
This is my main dilemma!

I was just thinking can you get a heated lamp on a tall stand with a flexible metal bit at the top so you can adjust it to where you want, like the shape of a question mark symbol ?. This is only a suggestion Tarryn:D

If she goes in to sleep, then latch the door....anything electrical she will have access to the cord including heated perch!!!

I always have the door latched when she goes to bed, as she doesnt sleep if its open.

P.s MikeyTN....Willie is Gorgeous!!

Thanks! He is gorgeous, but he's a poop head right now.....Mating season!

Trust me on the heat lamp, it works quite well! All it is, is a clamp on shop light with a 60w bulb. It will cost you no more then $15 for the whole thing.

How about using a different room for sleeping? Put an electric radiator in the room and keep it at 70 degrees. I've always kept my whole house warm just to keep it safe for the bird. It's the price you pay to keep a bird. Don't put any electric device in the cage. Thats too risky.
