Last night my boyfriend Tracy had to make the decision to put out sweet, 13 year old Chihuahua to sleep. He has been suffering from a collapsing trachea for some time now. In the last week, things went from bad to worse. He became very bloated and his breathing was so labored. The X-ray showed congestive heart failure, enlarged heart and liver, fluid in his abdomen. There was nothing more to be done. We were all with him and I’m sure he knew how very loved he was.

Tracy and I have been together for almost 18 years and lived together for over 15. Just over a year ago we decided to live separately but stay together, and we shared the dogs. I got weekends. I’m so thankful to have had this last weekend with him. I knew he wasn’t doing well but I got lots of snuggles and love and, while he was a real jerk to almost everyone who isn’t family, he was never anything but love and light to his people.

I can’t imagine a life without him.

So sorry for your loss, it’s so hard to lose a family member.

Awww im so sorry for the loss of your little one. If i could hug u right now i would.haveing to go to the vet and make that decision is the worse! You did the right thing. U have to try to focus on the good times, take time to grieve..if u need to talk p.m. me....i also just had to make that decision on saturday.

Oh, Inger...
We love them so much, so unconditionally and deeply.
Thank you for showing us that lovely little face.
I'm glad you shared it, and I hope that this expression soon comes true for you... "A burden shared is a burden lightened". That little angel passed while truly LOVED, and that's a great gift!

My heart is breaking for you, it has to be one of the most painful decisions we ever have to make. I'm so glad you were there with him. I am so sorry for your loss.

David, I hope your baby will be okay.

My dog's been gone for 2 years now, and the one before her, 15 years. They never leave your heart, but you're always left with lovely memories.

I'm sorry for your loss and I'm glad your pup isn't sick any more.

I’m so sorry. You gave the gift of release from suffering, which hurt only you. Takes love and guts.

Thank you so much for those words. I will share them with my boyfriend, who ultimately had to make the decision, and who is feeling horribly guilty.

Oh Inger, it takes real love to release a family member from pain and suffering. Chi Chi dogs have a way of working into our hearts, they are such a mix of close breeding and yet still retain that bit of wolf. Did you know that they are the most closely related to wolves out of all modern dog breeds ? You did the right thing Inger, and he is playing and yapping at all the other dogs over the Bridge, feeling like a puppy and (hopefully) giving the birds a break, as he tells all the other dogs aout this great bird he knew name Bumbles.

Awww im so sorry for your loss. I dont know if this helps but i always feel better knowing an animal had a good life while it was alive. Thats what matters. Hugs for you x:green2:
