So I am easily attached. Very easily. Im also a "compulsive rescuer" and I always tell my husband it is just temporary until I can find a safer home for the birds than wherever they were before. I usually do pretty well at this, and am able to say goodbye relatively easily, since I knew from the start I wasn't keeping them. Well, with our recent move my husband has called on me to keep my word and find new homes for certain birds who were never supposed to be permanent, but of course every once in a while one just settles right into your heart and won't leave! but the reality is that they are adoptable, and if I keep the adoptable ones I won't have room for the ones who really need ME instead of just needing someone who loves birds :(

Welcome to my world.

That must be very hard for you. At least by rescuing these babies, you've given them the opportunity to find a forever home (even if it's not with you). I'm sure with your dedication to birds, you will be able to find them truly wonderful new families (and it never hurts to ask if they would mind keeping you updated on the birds progress;)).

It's hard in such a small community; the pool of trustworthy bird owners here is very small and most of them are maxed out on rescues since so many people move here, get a parrot, and dump is when they leave. We are completely saturated.

Wow Hawaii. I suppose that does limit you. Can you ship them to the main land? I would think the flight would be really hard, even if it is west coast.

I could ship them fairly easily actually, but then I would not be able to know the new owners :(

That is true but maybe someone on the forum knows someone. I was just thinking if you really couldnt find someone local. I wasnt sure if that was even an option (the shipping :)

I will probably end up posting some of them here but I'm not ready yet, I have ideas in my head of what would be the ideal types of homes for each one and I'm going to try to locate those types locally first. It just hurts to be making those choices.

I bet it is hard. And locally you are always there to take them back if for some reason it doesnt work out down the road.

Lol theoretically, however I will be leaving in a few years.

I might be interested if you have one fairly quiet who needs a home or I'm willing to foster if needed. What I mean by quiet as in not as loud as my Jenday or Sunday :p

I'm the same way, and since I used to work at a certain pet supply store, if anyone hears anything about a bird needing a home, I'm the first one contacted.

The only one I've given up was my SunDay to a friend I worked with. I knew the bird was going to be a good fit, since she was super sweet and loving, and would be able to be handled by her young daughter. Since we worked together, I knew of her experience with birds and I trusted her. I occasionally think about getting her back but I know she's in the best home that she could be, and it allows me to possibly take on another rescue if I need to.

This is precisely why i stopped fostering dogs.....first dog i foster i end up keeping because i cant stand to pass her off to another person again. Its so sad and hard to do.
