Hey guys,

I just picked up my birds from a boarding facility after a weekend trip. They screen the boarding facility for all major bird diseases and its a really high quality place.

Since being brought home, my female lovebird has been sleep/chirping on the heated perching rod. I went to gaze at her for a second when I noticed that she was rocking back (kind of quickly) and for and her mouth was slightly open and I can see she's tonguing the roof of her beak.

I'm worried that she's not feeling good. She usually sleeps with her mouth closed. Also the rocking back and forth (foreward and backward) is strange. I have a video but I have no idea how to upload it...

If it's a new behavior for her, I'd take her to the vets ASAP. She could have something stuck in her throat, or could have contracted something while in boarding.

Please call your vet, ASAP.

If you can upload the video I can tell you more! You can upload into photobucket or YouTube.

Hey guys she stopped doing it. I think she's okay.

I think she was just super exhausted after being boarded, she was suddenly surrounded by like 20 birds and I think when she got on the heated perching rod back in her usual spot she just started nodding off (by literally nodding back and forth). Last night they wanted to go to bed at 6:30/7pm and usually they want to sleep at 8pm. They both look good today and I havent seen any more rocking in the little girl.

Thanks for your help!

Can be heat exhaustion. Birds tail bob and open mouth breathe when they get over heated.
