Gloria, BFA, adopted on Jan. 9, 2016 when she was 30 years old
. Her mom went to a nursing home.
Also have 2 cats (Rangerand Luna) and a 24 year old aquatic turtle, named Elvis.
I'm looking for an affordable appropriate cage for my 30 year old BFA. She's not a terribly active bird. We've had her for 2 months and she came with her original cage which is 25 inches wide, 19 inches deep and 38 inches tall to the top of the dome top. It seems really small to me. I found a great one on Amazon but didn't buy it in time and it is now no longer available.

I kept looking and found the same cage that is 8 inches less in height but with the same dimensions and features as the original cage.

Does this cage seem appropriate for a BFA? I worried about the fact that we lose 8 inches in height over the first one I saw, but she doesn't go to the bottom of the cage. I suspect because it puts her too close to the cats so that area close to the floor would be wasted. I like the full length door and the swing out seed dishes. :green:Any advice would be appreciated.

I agree, I think Gloria would definitely appreciate a bigger cage.

I'm sorry, I can't make the links work from my iPad. Others may be able to from different devices.

I purchased one from Amazon last year and the description said the bars were 1/2 or 3/4 inch (I cannot remember exactly) but when I got it the bars were measuring 1-1.25 inches apart. I returned it and ordered one from MyBirdStore.com They had a 30% off sale. I went to the site and today they have 25% off purchases over $250

I can't see the link, but we got Kiwi's cage off amazon from birdcagesforless (you can also buy directly through their website). It's a nice size for a zon and seems to be well made. I also (personally) like that it had a white option, as I feel a light color cage is a little more visually open and airy for a bird than a darker color one (and so many cages these days seem to only be offered in black or a darker green or gray). Only had it a little over a year now, but so far, so good!

Sorry about the links. Let me try again.

The one no longer available: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004NPZJ8Q?refRID=53RF4CF56HFQ8CJ91RMC&ref_=pd_ybh_a_4"]Amazon.com : Bird Parrot Cage Macaw Cockatoo African Grey Q27-3223 Black : Pet Cages : Pet Supplies[/ame]

The one that is the same size but 8 inches shorter from top to bottom:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Parrot-Macaw-Cockatoo-African-Q32-3223/dp/B003XRMGKE/ref=sr_1_7?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1457818386&sr=1-7&keywords=parrot+cage+macaw"]Amazon.com : Bird Parrot Cage Macaw Cockatoo African Grey Q32-3223 S : Large Bird Cages : Pet Supplies[/ame]

As I said earlier--I think the extra 8 inches in the first cage would be wasted as she doesn't use the bottom of her cage.

I am hoping Amazon is good for cages, thus far everthing I have ordered is perfectly fine. Waiting for a cage too get here for my new budgie unless of coarse my sick cockatiel wants it then they will be friends. Lol.

I wiill post a picture with the cage set up when that happens next month.

I ordered a Kings cage last year from Amazon, had absolutely no problems. Arrived when quoted and in perfect condition.

Ive been scouting for cages as well and have come up with one of the Amazon listed cages offered by RLWholesale (Rowland) in West Covina, CA. They claim their powder coated cages are bird safe and not toxic but at the price they are offering compared to PRevue/Hendrix and Kings cages, Im a bit suspect. Anyone have insights as to the actual quality and safety of the Rowland cages?

I get all my cages from Amazon or Doctors Foster & Smith. I only buy HQ brand and am extremely pleased with the quality!

What makes a quality cage vs a non quality cage? what should we be looking for to determine this (other than non toxic powder coat)
