So I've started to work with the harness again. We were slacking off after I lost my Gracie. I'm feeling better now and kind of non shalantly been trying to play with Timn h and the harness. She will now put her head half way into the loop on her own to grab a treat. So I'm hoping she will almost put it on herself. Pretty exciting I had to resist the urge to just pull it on but we are close not quite there yet.

I have never used a Harness, so I have little useful knowledge as to their 'installation.' :D

That said, I have always wondered about the process. It just seems counter too what Parrots react too.

Best of Luck Good Friend!

Thank you very much. The video that comes with the harness is pretty good in being honest about the time line and stuff. Gives you exercises to do basically. Lift their wing for a three count, push them off balance and pull your fingers over their head like it was the loop of the harness to practice getting her to close her eyes. Then make the leash a toy and get em used to it and the feel of it. After all that hopefully you are ready to strap up and go outside on an adventure.

Took Salty and I about a year to work up to putting the harness on without too much fuss.
Make sure that the first time it is successfully put on that a) you have a most excellent treat ready to give immediately and b) that you take Timneh out side right away. Nice walk around the house and property, with lots of praise and treats. Getting it off needs to be practiced too, Salty, when he first realized the harness was coming off and got really excited ( and tangled up) . Good Luck - every minute spent training for the use of a harness pays off 100 to 1 , once they get see the real world!
