Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
Yep lil Salty is a ripe 4 years old and hitting his pubescent stride, not quite as bad as we thought it might be. We had a bird-day dinner for him on the 15th and last weekend his best bird buddy Amy ( and Jim of course) came down for our semi-annual play date. I wish could up load the pics on my Iphone but its company property and won let me access the pics. These 2 parrots must have been chicks together in a former life, because immediately seeing each other they get all excited, warbling and twittering, feeding each other. Very amusing to watch. And they get defensive about anyone trying to come to close to the other parrot. Jim I hope you can add some pics you took!

I have been getting some defensive/protective behavior from Luna when I come close to Merlin during there out of cage time. Going to try to make a video of them together and upload it.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures when you can upload.

The dangers of aging is that everything seems to pass by so quickly, especially time! Four years old!!!

Our visits with Jim and Amy are a treat for both of us; Jim is a salt of he earth kind of man, biker, parront, and we enjoy the visits as much as the parrots do.

Gale how vividly I remember that bird-day video call, with Rickybird piping away as we TRIED to converse! Salty was so young then, didn't have his first big molt, and we hadn't even started his trick training yet. He has blossomed so much since then, and even though he is going through his puberty he is still a very lovable engaging boy.

Happy hatch day, Salty!

What a wonderful way to celebrate Salty’s 4th Hatchday! Can it really be four years? I’m glad everyone enjoyed Salty’s party.

Happy Belated Hatchday Salty!
I so hope that Jim has some pics to share, I adore Salty and Amy's friendship!

Sorry guys I didn't take too many pics..I figured Al was taking vids and there would be plenty to share:rolleyes:. As always,it was a most perfect day. On the ride down Amy was sitting on top of his carrier but the poor bird was stretching his neck so hard to see out the windshield I just had to put him on my shoulder, where he stayed the entire trip, eyes WIDE open and mumbling/talking/saying things I have never heard him say,he was clearly enjoying himself. We shared a breakfast sammich from Dunkin Donuts and an apple fritter. As soon as Salty and Amy saw each other all heck broke loose lol.
Sqwauking.yelling,talking..sounded like a huge flock and not just two birdies.
Salty was very active, running up and down his chain links, hanging upside down and banging his bells while Amy sat on a Manz tree stand on the coffee table.
Salty FLEW from his boing to the tree perch where Amy sat and they stayed together for the length of our visit. They did however show "mating" action, bobbing of the head, some regurging. Geri broke out some blueberries and grapes and the two birds fed each other lol
I didn't see any aggression between them. Al got a pretty good CHOMP from Amy (sorry buddy!) I was going to ask Salty to step up but that ol Amazon body lingo stopped me!
On the way home Amy sat again on my shoulder, not saying a word. At one point I adjusted my rearview mirror and caught him with his eyes closed. I nuzzled my nose into his head fluff and asked him if he was ok. It kind of startled him,as he jumped alittle and said 'HUH?" eyes wide open..caught him napping I did! All in all e3verybody had a great time..Thanks Al and Geri and Salty!

Jim.

LOL, Jim, what would a visit with Amy be like without a good CHOMP to me, I almost expect it now. Funny cuz I was trying to save him when he fell off the manz perch. Its almost obscene the way these 2 get along, right?
