Hannah's little Parrots thread 🦜

Hi everyone!
Birdos are all happy and well, The outdoor crew are coping absolutely fine with the cold winter so there was no need for me to worry.
Here is Gizmo and Percy..View attachment 42630

Wolfie is as cute as ever.
He’s doing well at coming out his cage occasionally, he’s bumped into the windows a few times now that he now knows they’re there!
His wing healed up fine after than random injury he gave himself.
He still hates hands touching him, I tricked him into letting me scritch his pin feathers on his head the other day. He doesn’t mind my face being right in his face so I started scratching him using my nose (LOL) and then I worked my hand up to my face and started using my fingers instead of my nose and he didn’t notice..woohoo..haha. Silly boy.

Thanks everyone!
Wolfie is pretty darn cute. He makes very cute noises too..Well apart from the good old cockatiel SCREAM everytime a parrot flies overhead, which funnily enough is every few minutes in Australia lol..which definitely isn’t cute.. but he only does that when he’s not occupied by me.
Other than that he makes some nice whistles and different tunes. And he also does little kissy noises. He’s very sweet. But also makes cute angry birb noises if I try using my hands.
I’ll miss him when I upgrade him to the aviary in the spring. That’s if he gets along with Percy and Gizmo of course

We’ve finally had 2 days of slightly warm sunshine here in Victoria for the past two days! Woohoo! Which meant I could wheel Wolfie outside to enjoy some sun and fresh air.
Today I decided to wheel him all the way to the aviary so he could meet the other birds! Half way there I realised it probably wasn’t the smartest idea lol. Wheeling the length of the veranda, down the ramp, across the bumpy gravel drive way, getting stuck on tufts of grass, bumping up over and through a gate, scraping along through the dirt and finally we got there :ROFLMAO: Wolfie enjoyed the journey! He loves being wheeled around! He chatted to me the whole way!
He couldn’t believe it when he saw Gizmo and Percy, and Gizmo and Percy were shocked too! ‘So this is who we’ve been screaming too?!’
They were straight up at the bars to each other, after 10 minutes they all settled down and hopefully got along. I left him there for an hour or so, and will do it again at the weekends if the weather is nice until it warms up and he can hopefully go out there permanently.

The wind blew the newspaper, oops! Luckily Wolfie is use to this so doesn’t freak out. I didn’t want to risk putting my hand in the cage to remove it while he’s outside.

I'm glad you're finally getting a break in the wintry weather down there Hannah, your chickies sure look like they're enjoying it :) It's even been unusually cold for us here in QLD, the wind is pretty cold, but at least we've been getting some sun! And Wolfie certainly looks interested in meeting his outdoor compatriots too, it looks like he's got some "heart wings" going on there!

Yay we FINALLY got the birds a new larger aviary! I’m so pleased!
We got it up and the birds in last night, just before it got dark! I recon when they woke up this morning they were surprised with all the space that suddenly appeared!
Already loving watching the budgies fly around having fun, Percy and Gizmo are happy with it too! But they will take a few days to adjust and enjoy I recon. Planning for Wolfie to join them next week if the weather is okay.
Still need to add a few more things and toys, leafy branches etc.

Really really nice! No secondary door?
Not yet, only because the one we made for the other aviary doesn’t fit onto the new one because the peaked roof is in the way. So that’s next weekends Job! And vital as we have a house sitter looking after the property soon

How cute are my budgies, I just love watching them interacting with each other. Sprinkles and Cosmo were ‘feeding’ each other the other day.
They all get along so well, a happy boy flock.

Eeeeek I’m planning to put Wolfie out in the aviary today! I’m so nervous, I really hope he gets along with the others. Percy and Gizmo are a bit clicky and grumpy sometimes, I hope they’re not mean to him. Maybe he’ll make better friends with the budgies?
It’s definitely going to take him a while to feel comfortable and settled out there, it’s a big change for him. I hope he doesn’t feel abandoned again, I’m putting him out there for his own mental well-being. I think it’s best in the long run to have bird company and space.

Here he is last night telling me off..he still hates hands. Shame he must have gone through some trauma.

Also notice how on one of his feet he doesn’t have any nails. He’s been like that since I got him, wonder what happened?

So Wolfie is now a big boy in the big boy house!
I put Wolfie in the aviary, Percy and Gizmo were straight onto him. STRANGER DANGER!! Percy chased him around for 5 minutes, telling him who is boss here and not to get too close. Wolfie would come to me for comfort as much as he could, but I only let him a few times before encouraging him to (calmly) fight his own battles, and stand up for himself. They all settled quite quick, lots of mesh clinging and just watching each other. Eventually the perched, and Percy ended up not letting Gizmo anywhere near Wolfie. Poor Giz keeps getting chased off.
They all sat near each other and had a preen. Percy is being very protective of him, and keeps bowing to him. But Wolfie just does his grumpy face at him to tell him not to get too close.
I’m a little worried he might get a bit cold tonight, there’s a slight breeze. And unfortunately him and Percy have decided to sleep at the front instead of taking shelter at the back. But there isn’t much I can do about that, hopefully he’s hardy enough to not get a chill. My house and his room is never hot so shouldn’t be too much of a shock. I’m away for 3 weeks soon so it was vital that I got him out today to make sure he is happy and settled during my holiday.
So, so far so good!

Long time no post from me!
Hello everyone, Hope all is well with you all on the Forum.
Thought I’d do a little check in to say hello.
My birdos are all happy and well. They’ve had a nice summer but now it’s getting chilly as winter approaches. Wolfies first winter outside (with me) so I hope he’s toughened up enough now he’s an outside boy.
The budgies are going through a moult atm.
I cleared out the woodchip from the bottom of the aviary the other day to prevent any damp and mould occurring over winter. I’ll replace it in the spring. So the aviary looks a little bare now there is nothing on the floor.

Here are some photos from the past few months :)
Wolfie is still happy to spend time with me even though he’s a big boy living outside with non-tame birds.

Here is a huge flock of Corellas feasting in my paddock during the summer. Plus a couple of magpies trying to defend the hay seeds as their own lol.
