Kirby Cockatiel adopted from a humane society 2018.
Also a slew of other small birds that span my entire childhood.
Hello Everyone!
The family adopted a now 13 year old male cockatiel just over a year ago. (Adopted from a shelter, Lived with an senior who was placed in assisted living- hoping his age is accurate)
Kirby is our first Cockatiel however we have owned others in the past... none of which were to overly hand tame. Given how long these little guys can live we want to attempt to hand tame him. Hes also in desperate need of a nail trim. It would be nice to take him in and have some foot work done... but not with his current fear of the hands.
Any advice on breaking this barrier?
He currently will let us in his cage, will eat millet from our hand, and whistle back at us. He seems interested in interaction but does lash out if hes feeling pissy... or gets spooked. I haven't attempted to touch him yet but I do let him grab tiny millets from my palm.
