soooo, I love to dress for Halloween. I was thinking of being a pirate this year, with Gilbert on my shoulder. I guess i would keep his harness on, because of opening my door to give out candy, but i think he would be very entertained being the center of attention like that. (i am in a town with lots of kids and sidewalks and great trick or treating, so we typically have a lot of action.)
Anyone ever "play pirate" with your bird?? hahaha, just saying that sounds insane to me.

Well I go to pirate festivals here on the west coast, ;D So yes a couple times a year. To date I have only taken my grey as he is the only one with shoulder privileges.

We let kids 'play pirate' with Merlin when we go to the pub! Kids generally come running over asking if they can play with Merlin and their parents usually 'ok' a shoulder sit and they take a picture of them being a pirate with him there.

We don't let them touch Merlin per say unless it's a quick stroke down his back, but he's a good shoulder bird (and never ever bites strangers) so we just plonk him on their shoulders and they get a picture, then he'll step back up to us when we're done. The kids LOVE Merlin for it and they generally run off to tell everyone about it, it's lovely! We don't live in that town anymore, so we don't get to do as many public outings with Merlin as we'd like, it was brilliant! :(

I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, but if you know your bird is okay out and about like that and with strangers 'wanting' to fuss (even if they don't get to touch, they'll try and get close!) then I'd do it!

Be warned, you're gonna have a ton of kids asking to either hold, or cuddle him and it gets hard to say no!

I have had people come up behind me and grab my greys tail feathers. Nothing like having a spitting mad grey spin and bit at them to get them to step back. This is also the reason he is allowed as he has never bit me because he could not bit the one he wanted! Love taking my guys out in public. Its so good for them!

Merlin was miles better behaved when he was getting regular outings. :(

The Flight Suite company has actual pirate suits for birds! How cute would Gilbert look in THIS?????
Pirate FlightSuit & Hat | Avian Fashions

ARRRG. I want one for Merlin!

The flight suit company--i emailed them today because they have SO MUCH cute stuff for the bigger birds and fewer things for the little guys. Gil doesn't really love wearing the flight suit but is ok with the hoodie. He only fits in the Junior hoodie and there are few of them. There is a sale priced flight suit for Halloween though for big birds....if you have a big guy, take a look!!

Way to cute! I have always wanted to get my albino budgie Fredrik a tuxedo flight suit. But he would take a petite, and they only have it in x-small! Grrr. I cannot get over how cute the birds look in the little hoodies!:D

I have thought of dressing up as a pirate and have Sam on my shoulder. I think he would love it. But we really don't have many trick-or-treaters.

Now, silly me, I thought I'd find people talking about dressing up AS parrots in this topic - or as a tree on which the birds could perch! ;)

At our last house, all the children in the neighborhood knew us as "the bunny's house" as Miss Hoppy loved children, so I would hold her for them to pet when they came. There were always kids who had to be reminded to take candy, as they were so mesmerized by the real live bunny in front of them!

So speak of the devil, it was slightly chilly this evening for our walk so I put shirts on the dogs and Gil wore the hoodie OVER his aviator harness. He was a lil ticked off for the first few minutes, but then we walked about an hour and he was happy. They so have to make more styles in the "junior hoodie". They are just adorable.

I may have to see about getting one of those for my Senegal...

That would be pretty awesome so long as he isn't spooked by the activities. Love the flight suit! Pirate is one of my fav things to do and I can usually get some so so things put together from my renn faire garb =D
