Riley-white faced grey cockatiel (hatch date 6-28-2014) RIP Halloween-pied cockatiel
So it's been nearly a year since I brought home Halloween from Petco. We had made some great progress within the first few months of bringing her home and so our relationship was off to a GREAT start but then I had to move out of my dads house and so we moved in with my best friend and her parents once we moved in here all the progress we made was lost and still is which is quite frusting. I am basically start all over with her next payday. She is getting a new cage. A BIG cage. just stuck on which type of cage to get her. There is a cage on ebay SIMILAR to one which is sold in a local feed store. It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much bigger than the cage she is currently in. New cage possibilty number 1 is on ebay with the item number 250855060962 . New cage possibilty number 2 and 2.5 is also on ebay with the item number 260493664361 there is one identical to it but it comes with a ladder that is 10 dollars more and has the item number 260731802084. There is one I kinda like but would be a last resort only and that one has the item number 230651232205 (that one is similar to one my grandmother has but hers is white). I really like the second option as it has a locking door however I like the first one because of all the room she will have in it and I can always go to the dollar store and pick up some clips to end any concern about her being able to open the doors. I will also be clipping her wings I know this is a much debated subject here however I do it until she is finger tame like she used to be. I think these steps will help us bond again. hopefully it will work :grey:

What type of bird is Halloween?

She is a cockatiel a pretty pied cockatiel

The cage you have no is a bit small, but it looks like your looking at some nice larger ones. Why not check out Craigslist for some playtop cages? You can get a used A&E playtop cage for a conure for between $50-100. I have seen people get double macaw cages for that range. It's amazing what people sell used cages for!! Otherwise I would suggest something with a playtop because they are soo much more fun for the birds. They have an area to play and eat treat right on top of their cage, very convenient! Just make sure you go with powder coated and proper bar widths. I get my cages from Westimporter >>eBay My World - westimporter

lol, it went to pioneer learning center again!

Why does it do that? lol

Well, just look up "westimporter" on eBay. I got my triple stack Amazon cage there (which will be used for Lovebirds) for under $200.00 brand new. He has really amazing prices.

It's actually very rare to find a GOOD bird cage (still in usable conditions) for sale on the craigslist in my area. I have look several times. I am aware that the cage she is in now is too small but thats why I'm getting her a new cage. I'm not looking for a play top cage as I don't feel it's worth spending an additional $100-200 just for the play top when I can build one myself for a lot less. And honestly $130 for the second option which is the one that is an extra $10 for the bulidt in ladder is that bad for a bird cage. I really do like the first two options I showed you guys. Actually if I had the room I would go with a third one that I can't find one that is even kinda close in size on ebay to show you guys. So thats that is partically why I am conflicted on my choice of cages.

That's too bad, I know there are a lot of not so great cages on Craigslist but I've found a few steals. So I took a look at your cages you liked, and tried to find something similar but cheaper. The first one to me is way too over-priced, and typically that type of cage is best for smaller birds such as Lovebirds, Parrotlets, Finches. The second cage is gorgeous, it's very nice!

I only went through the first page-

This one is an example, same price as your third cage but twice the size. The bars re are too wide, but I wanted to show you the price difference- 160631038793
With Playtop $95.00- 160632162279
With open dome top and perch $45.00 -160632162280
Similar to first cage multiple ladders and landings $72.00-120757869897
So here's what I found. $65.00 with ladders #120757848274 - 30 x 18 x 36"H

I really want to stay away from the third option if at all possible its kinda my last resort. I think the second one is nice as well it really all depends on which I like best when I am actually in the purchasing positon (2 more weeks) I like the climbing room the first provides which is what Halloween spends a lot of her time doing (but that might be due to her small cage) I do think clipped wings and a new BIGGER cage will be make a difference in her personality. Lets hope I'm right

ok Just checked out the ones you reccommended and I like all but the third one you recommended. It just seemed too small and with just one look I immediantly was like um no. The last one was nice as was the first one when you said it was similar to the third one I was relucant to look at them but none of them are really like the third one I had listed. I might even decide to get one of these today depending on how my pay check works out. I am hesitant though because the seller requires a phone number with purchase and I don't like to give out my phone number.

I forgot to put my number and it wasn't an issue, my cage is arriving today I'll make sure to show you pics. It shouldn't be a problem, I would just send a note explaining. The 3rd one is 22x22x31 it's a good size for a Cockatiel, you usually put a pair of Lovebirds in 30x18x18 so one Cockatiel would do fine in the 22x31 :)

I actually bought a cage last night which will be used as a temp cage. It is 25X24X18 so I set it up later on I will buy her an even bigger one but the next cage I buy will be one that I swear has to be a minimum of 6ft long. It's actually not a bad price at only $136 it is huge and so that will be her next cage. Halloween sure seems to love her new cage though.

How long do you plan on keeping her in there? For a Cockatiel at least one dimension should be over 30, I wouldn't house a Cockatiel in that even for a period of time IMO. If you stick a lovebird in an 30x18x18 as a minimum the Cockatiel should have much more room.

I only plan to keep her in that cage a month or two until we find out for sure if I will be getting a bigger room I don't want to get a giant cage that is too big for my current room because I am expecting to get a bigger one but this way once I know for sure I can buy a cage that fits in the room without it being way too big. But I was so sick of looking at that little bitty cage she was stuck in and since this cage is much bigger she is happier in this cage and even stepped up on to my finger today. She wouldn't let me take her out of the cage but it's a start.
