Hahn's Macaw
I want to start out by saying how amazed I am with the Hahn's Macaw. My only experience with a parrot was my love an Umbrella Cockatoo. After developing severe Asthma from her powder, I was forced to give her up. It became life threatening and unfair to keep Boo when I was unable to provide the contact of holding and handling her that the Toos thrive on and deserve. It was a heart wrenching decision that even now I second guess but I tried to do it responsibly by being selective, and drawing up a contract. Took two years before I found the home I was comfortable with and just a donation to parrot rescue took, nothing in my pocket just the contract of not being bred, sold or neglected and she comes back to me no matter how long, if they can no longer keep her. With that said, I would love to chat some about Hahnna my Hahn's.

I got Hahnna at six weeks after demonstrating that I was an experienced had feeder. I have to admit that I never expected what she has turned into. Such a big bird personality, and intelligence in a small package.

From the beginning I started socializing, training and word associating with Hahnna, yet never expected a great deal, after all she is a small parrot with limited intelligence. I figured at best she will mimic some words and be a fun buddy to hang out with. Everyday, she amazes me with new things. She is seven months now and has about a 15 word/phrase vocabulary. What really blows my mind is her ability to associate what she is saying.

At around three months, she would associate her syringe to being fed, but more then that she would ask to be fed. I would ask her " what do you want" and she would respond my "baba". That's what we called it. If I did not ask and she saw the syringe AKA baba, she would simply say " i want my baba." Then her harness. Whenever I put the harness on she associated that with the park and say"going to the park." Or at night when I would come in from work it I would give her a snack, so sometimes she will tell me, by saying "i want my snack."

Tonight, I came home and she made her contact call, I brought her out and said "mommy was at work." Now my husband who up until now never really took to listening to Hahnna heard it all. I said, "mommy was at work." She responded with "oh you ok." And I said "yeah, did you have fun today." She said back to me "I had fun." What blows my mind is the fact that she didn't just say fun or repeat it all back but rather used the word "I". Saying "I" had fun.

Just a proud mommy I guess :09:

Elaine and Hahnna

I can't say about the Hahns, (too cute, love them) as I don't have one but my five year old Catalina, Sunny has a vocabulary of about two hundred phrases. I don't know how many words she has as she usually uses phrases and many of them contain the same words. She uses I just like yours does and astounds me with her correct use of words and her obvious understanding. The other day when it was too cold for her to play in her patio cage I found her dancing and bobbing toward the window where she could see her cage and she was ranting about the weather. Mostly parrot babble but I heard "weather! Dis is terrible" and "I gotta problem". Lol. They are way to smart if you just listen!

You have all right to be a SUPER proud birdy mom, Elaine!!! :) You are doing EVERYTHING right with your Hahnna baby!!! :D

I do have a wee small request, if you don't mind...how about a picture (or 20) of pretty Hahnna??? :54: Pretty please...with sugar on top?

Thank you everyone. Wendy I have a bunch in my album on here. I am hoping with some luck I can get her to talk more on video. She is so shy, and seems like the only time she will babble for the camera is if I put music on loud, then she talks and talks and you cannot shut her up. Lol. I will always miss my Boo but Hahnna is such a joy.
