My Patagonian Conure!

It's been an interesting afternoon with him haha we had originally set up the cage with branches but once he was in he would not settle at all, so we decided to take one branch out and suddenly.....peace and quiet, he even started preening and closing his eyes, so we tried the rough perch near to his food bowl....well he threw yet another hissy fit, so out that came too haha

He's settled again now and occasionally squawks but nothing loud or bad now, a level that's ok haha

I haven't taken pics yet cos we want him to settle in before we start annoying him too much.

Well I say him, we don't know if he's a boy or girl yet, so we're gonna give him a few weeks to settle and then get him sex'd.

We have named him, with the help of my partners daughter.....Sydney! But will probably just call him syd as it'll be easier for him to remember. Spent ALOT on toys today, probably too much haha but he's with us for 30/40 odd years now so he's worth it!

The trick is to figure out what kind of toys he likes to tear apart, and not to waste your $$$ on toys he ignores.

Al is right. Try wood and plastic and soon you will know what he likes. Snap the little metal bits inside any bells too, they are always so flimsy and easily removed and swallowed. Your parrot will design his own cage setup too which it already sounds like he/she is doing. Best wishes x

Congratulations, very exciting!! Welcome home Syd

Very quiet night....he did try to keep himself awake for a bit but eventually went off.

So far this morning he's had new food, fresh fruit.....he has been out for a fly and ate a tiny bit of food from his food bowl whilst out on my hand.

He doesn't seem to like the natural wood type branches, which we both thought he'd love, he's the boss of his cage tho!

Another vid from just now

I really recommend getting those nail-trimming perches... they can eliminate nail-trimming, which was always so stressful for me and the Rb. It took a few years, but I eventually established a pattern/rotation that keeps him trimmed. I haven't had to do his nails in 20-plus years. I keep a dowel as the main "highway" down the middle of the cage, but the special cement/trimmer/textured perches are all over.
A few brands... but there are many: Polly's Sand Walk... Pumice Perch... Trimmer Perch...
Be sure to introduce them gradually: they're abrasive to their tender feet at first. I LOVE them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These are smooth on top and abrasive underneath. Very easy to install/clean, oo.
Sweet Feet and Beaks Pedicure Perch xsmall for parrots, Feather Fantasy
May take a while to get the right combinations/locations, but was worth it for me and the Rb.

OMG, I'm such a nosy nervous Auntie. I just love little Syd so much, long-distance and all. I'm re-living the Rb's early days.

Wow look how settled he is already, even flying. These are things I'm still dreaming about with my Parrot lol. Great job, you guys are doing amazing and seem like a great little family x

I am amazed.
And completely smitten.
Isn't Syd beautiful in flight?
The sound of it is exactly like his cousin Rb's, no, REALLY!!!!

Really.
