Guess who decided to get me an early xmas present!

Since I have no self control and keep browsing when I know it's a bad idea....I found a snake that has been on the list of ones for the future but I haven't actively searched for since I didn't think it would be easy to find...

While procrastinating at work I stumbled across one......and convinced mother she wanted to buy me an early xmas present! Just have to send the payment and pick a ship date....

I'm excited! He is a HypoCalico Chinese Beauty Snake

Victoria, he's beautiful! Will his color and markings change as he becomes mature? How big do these Chinese Beauty snakes get? You know... now you need to think of what you want for your "real" Chrismas present !

I don't believe so but I could be wrong. I think the regular calicos start out darker and then brighten up but I'm not positive on the hypo version. It can be difficult finding easy info on the beauty morphs.

They are supposed to get from 4ft to 6ft. I'd have to measure my albino beauty since he seems big sometimes.

So I pull into the driveway and see three big butt boxes...and my only thought is jeez what the heck did mother order now and oh man I have to drag all that inside don't I...

Turns out that it is my snake rack over a month early! Just when I decide to order another snake and try to squeeze him into my pile of cages.....now I have lots and lots of room


Hopefully it is all there and in good shape

Ah I'm lazy I'm guessing I picked it up from mother since that is always how she marked the Christmas boxes in storage. I also mark my wish lists or shopping list for the holidays that way. Honestly I would be hard pressed to track exactly when it was I picked up the habit! We also use the abbreviation on some handmade ornaments that wouldn't fit the whole word without being super tiny....so maybe it could have started there but I'm guessing that's not it...

I don't mind you asking! I've had plenty of classes that had these types of discussions asking why we do the things we do....so it doesn't seem that out of the ordinary for you to wonder

I'm waiting for my stepfather to come home before taking it out to be put together. I don't think it would be difficult but you never know.

I'm imagining snakes popping out of the filing cabinets at work...I'm not sure my coworkers would appreciate it hahaha

I'll be sure to get pictures for you to see when it's put together. I still have to stop by Walmart to buy the plastic containers for it.

Putting my rack together tonight and I bought 4 of the 10 bins so I'll have some snakes In it by the end of the night!

My new hypo calico will be in tomorrow morning! It is actually a female instead of a boy....so I've been debating caging her and my albino boy together. Obviously she would have to be an adult and much bigger than she is now, so I have awhile still to decide. She is still on fuzzy mice so she must be so small still! If I do cage them together the cage will be a 6' long, 2' wide, & 4' tall. They would be very pretty to see together all the time

Soooo.....I'm never putting on of these together again. What a big pain in the butt that was jeez. The flexwatt tape (the heat that twists through the rack) was just...I actually got a headache:52:

Okay so this is the snake setup at the moment. Where everyone is at the moment is not where they are staying. They aren't even staying in that part of the room but for now this will work!





As I was playing musical snakes all I could think was well my number certainly grew! And oh god I hope I don't misplace one right now...:52:

Right now Cordelia, Bodacious, Riddick, and mothers corn are in the rack. Eventually mothers snake will be moved into the living room but for now shes taking up one of my spots Cordelia will go back into one of my three display cages once some of the younger ones are bigger. There is a slight gap at the top of the bins for air circulation or for tiny snakes to squeeze through! Majority of the snakes are too small for the rack at the moment.

Eve and the white sided are at the top of the pile of cages. The tiny baby is in the spot next to the open space (where new girl is going tomorrow). For the displays Ivy is on top, Middle is Chinese Beauty (He got named Roy), and the bottom is Vera the black milk. Eventually the whitesided, Eve, and Athena (the baby one) will go into the rack. Vera, Ivy, and Cordelia will be in the displays. And the chinese beautys will either have their own arboreal display or individual arboreal displays.

If you are confused don't worry so was I when I was juggling everyone into cages

Wow! When are you going to start charging admission to see Victoria's Snake Zoo . I love the display cages. That will be nice when the Chinese Beauties have their arboreal displays too. 'Roy' I like it lol.

Hahaha when my stepfather came down to help me move the display cages into the stack he got distracted by Roy. He opened the cage and just looked at him. He was a little nervous to reach in to grab him so I had to get him out. But it was like my stepfather was hypnotized Granted Roy is very beautiful of course and big and friendly! Really Roy is probably the most personable and you could dump him on little kids that want to play with snakes without an issue. Now if you don't like the kid you could dump Bodacious on them

So snakes - their appeal? I mean they're stunning, doing get me wrong - but is that the big thing with them or? How do you cope with feeding them live animals? Do they need stimulation like the parrots/dogs etc?

Isn't it! Even if it was a big pain in my butt. I probably won't put anything bigger than my king in it because it just wouldn't be enough space to move around.

Hmmm I'm not sure what the appeal is exactly. I've always liked them even when I was small. Part of it is their look and they do have their own personalities. When I had my Burmese python he reminded me of a dog and Eve reminds me of a shy little girl. Mother thought I was weird for wanting one when I was little but after the first couple she converted. They are usually friendly and will sit with you no problem. I think the biggest appeal besides looks is the simple fact that they aren't demanding. They don't want anything from you but a clean cage, water, and food. Sure coming out to explore for a bit is fun but they won't get super depressed because you decided you were too busy that week or month. They are a hundred times easier to have than the birds thats for sure!

None of my guys eat live they all eat frozen. When I had the other snakes about a quarter I guess it was ate live (mostly ball pythons that I was having trouble converting to frozen). At the time I also kept rats as pets! I've always been called a little cold hearted, so I had no real issues feeding live. Plus, if that was all the snake was willing to eat I wasn't about to not feed him. Of course there were the few that came into the house as feeders and ended up as pets instead.

One of those I kept was called Stewie..he was so dopey I actually felt bad because it was obvious he was a little slow and kept him as a pet instead. He was awesome! One day he got his leg stuck in the bars of his cage and snapped it trying to get it out... the bone was poking clean out of the skin. When I got to him he was screaming and crying his full head off still stuck and I had to twist and push his broken leg out. My thought as I was doing this was it would have been kinder to feed him when he first came instead of have him go through that. He did heal up and live just fine as a gimpy three legged rat. He also got to breed with one of my females....the little promiscuous girl got out of the female cage and went to visit about 4 of my males...they did have some cute babies though

The reason I don't like feeding live because they fight back, which of course is a given. If the snake doesn't hit it just right the snake can receive some significant damage. 99% of the time they do hit it right and the feeder has no chance but I'm not willing to take the risk and I don't get any pleasure or thats so cool feelings watching the snake eat live. With frozen feeders I can dump it in the cage and not worry about it. Sometimes with live if the snake doesn't want to eat that day the animal will start chewing on the snake. Again damage I'm not willing to risk!
