After 6 years of being called a boy, and a few months of me questioning his gender, its official...

Pascal is a GIRL!!!
(S)he laid an egg last night! No wonder s/he was putting on weight.. recently went from 192 to 202 grams, and I thought s/he was just packing weight for winter time :p

Pascal is just as sweet as always.. which surprised me that s/hes never been aggressive to us over his/her cage, especially since an egg was about to be there! there was no brooding of the egg, and there seemed to be no interest in it, so it was disposed of without fuss. I'm probably still going to say him/his/he because its what I'm used to... but now we don't need a DNA test!

And of course this thread just wouldn't be complete without a recent picture of our GIRL enjoying a brown paper bag on their boing.

(And yes, I will be making sure to limit the nesting areas more carefully now that we know- just to limit the chance of impulse laying or any other things that go along with the nestyness. :) )

That's great! She let you know she is NOT a boy and laid an egg to prove it...LOL

I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I KNEW IT LOL!!! Haha what did I tell you :D

Seriously though, glad you had it done. Congratulations on your girl :). Actually better since Pionus females are more easy going and easier to handle after maturity.

...and an EGG!! I have absolutely no experience with questions of the eggy sort lol!

I knew I was gonna hear a "I told you so!" pretty soon. ;) I'm gonna keep monitoring weight and look out for any other eggs and behavioral changes, just incase. Egg binding and impulse laying have always been fears of mine, but at least I don't have to worry about being chomped on, cause SHE has made it quite clear there is no desire to mutilate our hands in any way. :p Lucky Pascal is so well behaved, lol. I expected an egg-laying female to be much more vicious about it! LOL

You have such a sweetheart Ashley ;). Sounds like you may be lucky too, in terms of her not being interested much in sitting on eggs. Not sure if that's more so in smaller birds (?)

Are your other birds boys? I don't remember..

Gale is DNAd female, Loki was DNAd male but we don't have the paperwork for it. Kiwi was never DNAd just assumed female, but has never laid an egg. and now Pascal has proven to be girl. :p

Congrats on Lady Pascal!!! And great to know her gentle nature remains as such even after laying an egg. She is a complete sweetheart!

Well hello, Ms. Pascal! She's beautiful, Ashley. I'm glad her personality is as sweet as always. Don't be too surprised if she lays a few more eggs.

Thanks for the congrats everyone, lol. I'm still kinda shaken by it just cause it was so sudden! I knew she was being hormonal but I didn't expect an egg LOL! She is a sweetie, love her all the same even if we had the gender wrong :p and Allee- I already weighed her again today and will keep doing so, that way I can guess if theres another egg in there. she's back to 190 which is right about normal. :)

Awww, now I KNOW Talli will be in love with the beautiful Lady Pascal!
It's good to see you again:)
