5 Congo African Greys, 2 linneolated Parakeets,
Hello, I have an African Grey I have taken into my home from a sad situation. She approx. 13 years old. We didn't know she was female until she started laying eggs. I have 5 other birds for years but never an egg layer. She has been sitting on them for about 3 weeks. We do I remove them, and how do I keep her from continuously laying? Thank you!

I'd let her sit another week or so and then remove them. Where did she lay them? In a food dish or on the bottom of the cage?

Was this her first clutch? If so, she may not lay again. (Fingers crossed) You could also try and re-arrange her cage, perhaps throw in a few new toys that may spark her interest. :)

Thanks for your reply, I have had her for about 4 months now, her owner commit suicide and I bought her from a bird store because the family dropped her off there. She had started plucking although she came in beautifully feathered. So this is the first eggs she's laid here, she laid them on her grate. I don't know if she's ever had eggs before. She is a sweet bird and we just love her. I hate to see her keep sitting on them day after day waiting, but i will keep them in another week and do as you said. Maybe she will forget about them in time. Thank you

Oh wow! THANK YOU for rescuing her!!! Greys are super sensitive to changes, especially if they weren't accustomed to changes before, unfortunately.

I think you did a WONDERFUL thing by taking her in. :) Is she still plucking now, or did she pluck just before laying her eggs?
