- Female Lessor Sulfur Crested Cockatoo age 24 and Female Green Cheeked Conure age 26
Greetings from Las Vegas, I am a new member but definitely not a new Bird Mama. My husband and I have been married for almost 40 years and have had birds for about 35 of those years. We currently have a very senior Green Cheek Conure that was about 3 months old when we brought her home in January 1991, her name is Baby and at one time she spoke 15 different phrases Now it is pretty much just Hello Baby and Night Night Night Night when our son comes home. That started our when our son was young and would tell us Nite Nite before bed. Then we have a Lessor Sulfur Crested Cockatoo that we got in early 1993. At the time we got her we also had a very lovable Umbrella Cockatoo. We got her as a Baby still hand feeding her about 8 times a day, she lived with us for 22 years until we had to give her to a home that would be able to give her constant attention.
I work from home with two full time careers, one as a Loan Underwriter reviewing car loan applications for a finance company the other as a Travel Agent that specializes in selling cruises. Because I am on the phone with customers a lot our Umbrella could not stand me being on the phone even when she was in a different part of the house and would scream. Our two we have now have always been quiet or for the most part
I have an interesting set up. In our house our master bedroom is quite large 17x28 and my office is there as well as the bird cages so the birds are right next to me all day. We have never covered our bird at night they just know when it is time to go to sleep and start crunching and amazingly they also are not early risers with the sun either
Birds are not the only non humans in our house, we also have three cats, Sammy, Missy and Buddy that have always gotten along great with the birds. We also have had several Toy Poodles over the past 40 years but no longer. Through the years we had two different ones named Rudy and once in a while Baby the Green Cheek will still say Rudy! Where's Rudy? We also have two Box Turtles that just appeared at our front door 2 years apart but that story is for another time
My husband Tom and I love to travel specifically cruises and we have done 45 of them but since our son lives at home and loves the birds everything is always good to travel.
