I just sined up. I've had my Jenday Conure for a week! Lots to learn. He is very unsure of coming out of his cage. I work with him every morning to get him to take a piece of cracker from the top of my hand. Whenever he touches my hand I give him a "click". This morning he actually stepped well onto my hand ("click") and took the cracker.
I'll be asking lots of questions I'm sure. I did buy into birdtricks.com and have watched their 12 episodes to varying degrees. They are real salesmen! They tend to promote and promise things like stopping your bird from biting in one day. They don't actually zero in on a specific solution, but show over and over how to use a chopstick and clicker. The chopstick and clicker are used in every one of their 12 different scenarios. They are also demonstrating their techniques on birds that are out of their cages and sitting on stoops. It gets very repetitive.
Well, my Conure won't have anything to do with a stick. He moves to the other side of the cage. I am working with the clicker to encourage him to come out of his cage. It will likely be an extended process of clicking when he steps on my hand to get the cracker.
All for now. Cheers!
