Hi. Nice to see you here. He's very pretty. What is his name?

I'm not too concerned about how that poop looks for now, but am concerned about whether he is eating or not. If you have a gram scale, you could weigh he amount of food you put in, and then check it (also looking for any he may have thrown around).

What are you feeding him so far?
If possible, give him filtered or bottled water.
Did he give himself a bath since you have him?

Also, what is that long metal link chain below him in the last photo?

Oh my I sure hope that bird is not chained. A leash is one thing but a chain can't be good.

I'm also curious as to the type of food you are giving him. He is a Hahns macaw, for the record.

like WannaBeAParrot said dont worry about poo now but make sure hes eating if hes not see what kind of food he ate in last home and offer lots of different kinds of food. Also he is a Hans Macaw and I hope hes not chained they have such delicate legs they arent like birds of prey their legs can break very easily if he got startled and jumped that chain could pull on his leg and break it also why keep a parrot chained he wont be happiest that way! Also I noticed the cage in the background doesnt have many toys all birds need lots of toys to play with and keep them happy and occupied and different kinds of perches to play on!! Good luck wit your new baby!

thank you all!!! He was chained when i met him at local bird shop, and the boss said that it's better to keep him chained until he is tamed, because if not it is very difficult to control him when i need to give him a bath or sunbath......
about the food, i don't know what the pet shop gave to him, but the petshop owner gave me the "Xtra Vital Premium Food for African Gray and Cockatoo" but still don't know weather he ate the food or not.....
how about give him some diluted Pocari Sweet water?

You might want to read and post in the Macaw area asking some specifics about food, handling, etc.

I think you should remove the chain right away. He could get very hurt with it. You just wouldn't imagine the things that could go wrong until you have seen or heard the stories of the trouble birds can get in to. It looks like he has a very nice big cage in the photo.

He may be happy enough to bathe himself if u give him a bowl that won't topple over. Or, you could take him in the shower under a gentle room temp sprinkle. Be gentle and make it seem like fun. Sounds like you want to learn the right things to take care of him, so please do read about Hahn's Macaws here.

But u really have to get rid of the chain. If necessary, u could consider having his wimgs clipped for safety if flying around is problematic at home.

If the chain goes to his wallet then it's okay...

thank you very much, i'll try to remove the chain, but i just don't wanna make him scared, him haven't been tamed, and the last night, went i tried to take him out, he climb everywhere in the cage without coming to my hand, and he was already clipped, so at last he jumped out of the cage and i picked him up, he can stand everywhere in my house but when i tried to handle him he always bite me, so maybe he need to stay alone for several more days, and the chain is not that easy to be removed i need to cut one of the rings with pliers, so he might be scared one more time......

Danilo. If you are able, bring him to an avian-vet and have the chain removed and get him a general check-up. Is there one near you? Where are you located?

Your new bird will need time to adjust to the new home. So it would probably good to leave him in his cage for a few days or a week, with door open whenever someone is around to keep an eye on him in case he wants to exit the cage. Make sure he gets the chance to leave cage if he wants every day. Set up a play area on top of his cage (it looks like it is flat up there). You can put a playgym, or a T shaped perch, or a rope perch set up like an arch, some toys, something to chew on, etc. Be calm and not too much fuss around him. Give him mellow attention.

Be sure to give him a good diet. I don't know what that is for a Hahn's Macaw. But I would think it must be supplemented a variety of fresh veggies and some fruits, sprouts (NEVER EVER avocado, caffeine, chocolate, cocoa, or junk food)

Someone please help. Do you think he should towel the little guy if he knows how to properly do it, then have someone clip the chain if he can't get to a vet?

hi, WannaBeAParrot, thank you for your advices, that are really helpful for me. There do is a good vet near my house, maybe i 'll take the bird to the vet's clinic for a body check, and i just called him the last night when i saw the green poop of my bird, and he asked me to check his poop for 1 ou 2 days and if still that soft and with a lot of water i'll need to take him to the clinic. tonight i'll try to remove the chain myself, if fail i 'll bring him to the vet. At the top of the cage, the was a stand for parrots, i removed it because i think the bird is so sacred to go out of the cage, and too difficult to climb to the top of the cage.
you mean when i go back home, open the door of the cage, and make sure he can easily go out of the cage?

tonight when i was back home, the bird saw me and hooted to me(my mom said he never hooted to anyone except me), so i open de door of the cage, and he looked very exciting and climbed up and out of the cage, so i talked with him and tried to take the chain off, he just stayed there quiet and finally i got success. He looked happy and moving here and there, finally came to my hand, so i put it onto a simple stand wood, and gave him very very tiny pieces apple, and he accept well, and when i gave him my arm and said "up" he came up:D,.
but it seems that he didn't eat nothing during the day, only drunk some water, and the poop still look strange and green, i just weight the food and look if tomorrow he will eat something or not. so how can i get him eat something or i need to take him to the vet?

Sounds like you made great progress with him yay! as for the food try offer nuts and other fruits and veggies in his bowl and try a different kind of food he may just not like that food.

How old his he? Maybe you can ask the store where you got him what he was eating while he was there.

Yay. You got the chain off and he seems to be happy about that. He looks like a sweet bird just hanging out. That's a nice wood perch he is standing on. I'm so glad he is happy to see you when you come home. Yes, I do mean to say that it would be good leave his door open when you or someone else is home to oversee safety in case he wants to come out and to top of his cage. If you have a small foot toy for him, try it on top of cage. A little ball, or even something from kitchen like plastic measuring spoons. You can pick up bird toys, or try even a little toy safe for small babies.

The poop still doesn't bother me that much because it still has firmness in the center and the water ring isn't totally clear water. But do keep an eye on it. If he is eating lots of wet foods (such as veg or fruit with alot of juice in them), it will naturally be wet poop. But it's okay to feed that to him.
What kind of parrot do you feed him? Pellets, or a seed mixture, or combination?

If he isn't eating any "dry" food, you can also try a little COOKED whole grain pasta/noodle, quinoa, brown rice or pieces of plain crunchy rice cakes.

Is he eating any of that millet I see in the photo?

Birds like company when they eat. I know Hahnzel eats while I am away, but I know he eats more when I'm with him. In the morning I have his table stand in the bathroom while I'm getting ready for work and he eats nonstop while I'm shaving, showering etc. Try sitting next to the cage with him and then he won't feel so torn between you and his food.

Also green poop usually means eating just seed. Keep trying things with him, eat a piece of healthy food and give it to him. watery poops also can be signs of stress.
Thank you for removing the chain!!!

his food is a mixture seeds, but he was not interested in any seed, even sunflower seeds or millet, but the last night, i opened a sun flower seed and he accept, this is the only seed that i saw him eat in these 3 days......but after played with me, he drunk a lot of water.
i don't know if he will eat any seed today, the petshop owner taught me to give more sun flower seeds.....
it's os ok for a parrot that don't eat any dry food during 3 or 4 days or more? or need i give him some pocari sweet water? or go to the vet?

No birds need to eat, they have very high metabolisms.Try rice, breads, pastas, oatmeal, eggs. If he isnt eating he must see vet ASAP

If the poop is green, it's because you're feeding him seeds. Pellets would make it brown; fruits will make it the colors of the rainbow. You need to watch out for black poop. Black poopoo is no good. Remember that, Danilo, remember that.

Also, a parrot not eating for days is very very bad. Go to a vet ASAP. Birds will die of starvation sooner than a human would. Their metabolisms are that of a mammoth. A healthy bird eats about every 15 minutes.

Please hurry to the avian vetenarian today or tomorrow. Best of luck to you and your feathered friend.
