Hi there,

I went to buy a Green Cheek Conure but the sellers insisted that having two won't effect how well they bond with humans so I ended up getting two.

I have had them out of the cage together and they were quite alright and enjoyed a neck rub. Although if I try to get one without the other they will call at each other and go nuts unless I reunite them.

Also I purchased them hand raised apparently, they could of fooled me. I put my hand in the cage and run and squawk like no tomorrow, it's near impossible to get one out and risk a good bite.

I guess the question is, was two a bad idea as I first though & aren't hand reared birds supposed to be hand tame? or are GCC difficult to tame?

They call when you separate them because they have bonded to each other.

They run away and squawk because they are scared of you.

Hand reared birds aren't always necessarily hand tame.

Whoever you got them from may have lied to you, but I think they just need time.

How long have you had them?

So if I want the bird have a tight bond with humans it's best to have just one? Will there be problems if I sell one now that theyre bonded? iv only had them a few days. They were born 17th November.

Depends. If they are hand reared and tame they should stay tame with people even if they are together. And when they're young they adapt fast, so they would probably be ok if you separated them while they're still young.

Are they siblings? If they are male and female they could breed when they mature.

Give them time before going ahead and selling one though.

They're two males, one is getting more tame which initially was the one who bit hard. I used grapes to lure him on my hand and he's stepped up ever since. The other is too timid. Once theyre out of the cage and on me they're full of confidence, I can scratch their necks and they fluff up etc, its strange. I think it must be the hands.

What do I do when I get bitten hard by one of them? is there anyway to train out of it?

So having two rather than one doesn't make them less people tame?

Ignore the bites completely. Don't react. Try clicker training and touch training. Touch training and clipping wings stopped my Green Cheek being aggressive.

They will bond better to a person if they are separated but they will still be tame with people even if they are together. I suggest separate them. Buy another cage.

Just an off question, what are the personality differences between male & female gcc?

There isn't really any difference. All birds are different. But I have found males are often more aggressive and more vocal and females are often less vocal and calmer, but it varies.
