Hello all. I've had my sweet green cheek Caspo for seven years (got him at 3 months old), and I recently met an Amazon that I am in love with. He's 15, his owner had to give him up. Anyway, I have no experience with larger birds, Caspian is my first parrot, and I am wondering how they might get along. They would have seperate cages, Caspian sleeps with me and the amazon would be in the front room. I'm scared that an injury might occur, or that they might bond and I would lose my affectionate conure. Does anyone have some helpful advice?

My Amazon is in LOVE with my Conure, He always tries to feed her.

Introduce them slowly, I let them be on the play stand together but I don't let them get too close. My conure is actually more aggressive towards other birds, and since my Amazon is older and slower, I'm more concerned about his welfare than him hurting my little conure.

But generally speaking they do mix well, as they share similar habitats, it does vary on individual birds. Maybe arrange a time to bring your conure to meet him prior to bringing him home?

Unfortunately the green cheek gets mad if I make him travel, and the amazon is being fostered at a local pet shop. I'm meeting with the amazon again tomorrow to see if we still get along. His previous owner was male and he's not really fond of girls. The pet shop workers were amazed when he shook hands and said hello. I guss we'll just see. Thanks for the advice.

Aquila,

Are your birds still sweet towards you or do they prefer bird company? Caspian has always been the only bird and I don't want to lose our connection.

My conure couldn't care less if I'm there or not really. I can give her scritches and pick her up, but she doesn't step up or anything yet. She's come a long way since I adopted her though, she used to attack me when I went in the cage to change food/water. She tried to attack my parakeets too, so she doesn't care bigger or smaller! She's very independant though once in a while she'll sit with me and preen me.

My conures are in love with my mealy amazon but she isn't keen on them. I call her their Green Goddess. Best of luck with their friendship :)
