Green cheek conure- Kiwi
Hello, I Just got a Green Cheek conure today. He is Very scared, Probabaly from coming to his new home. I got Him From a breeder who Handfed Handraised him. I got him for my birthday. But I really dont Know much about him. I did some research but i would like to know more if you have any advice please let me know. Thanks so much :green2:

First of all congrats on your new bird. Second of all, this bird is not the easiest to take care of when you don't know much. All I can tell you is to stock up on all the info you can find because your going to need it. Not trying to scare you but parrots are not your everyday pet that you just feed and water. You will need to spend hours with him/her. Have you considered household dangers? If you use nonstick cookware you may as well toss it because it has a coating that when heated to a high temp, will kill your bird quickly. You need an alternative such as stainless steel. Candles, air fresheners gotta go too. Also are you willing to provide proper care such as expensive vet visits to an AVIAN vet. These are very expensive. Congrats on your bird and happy birthday but you need to do tons of research. Also you need special pellet food(more $),ORGANIC fresh fruits and vegetables daily(again, more $) Good luck.Much more info to come...

Are you ready for a 25+ long commitment to this bird? Are you interested in learning about these birds? Having a bird is a big responsibility, and usually not a good birthday present.

The first 24-48 hours you get your bird it shouldn't be handled (this isn't the case for super super friendly birds). This is because they need to get used to their new surroundings and cage. When did you get this bird? If it has been longer than 48 hours then he should be getting happier. Just take it slow with your new baby, and he will eventually warm up to you.

RioMom could probably answer all your questions. She currently has a green cheek and she had another previously. She is a moderator on here and she knows a lot about the species.

Good luck with your bird :)

Hello and welcome to the forum! Give your new little friend some time to adjust to his/her new surroundings. Google lots of information, but feel free to ask questions here, and we will all try to help you. What are you feeding? As suggested, pellets are good, fruits and veggies. Only give seed as a treat, or for training as it's very fatty. Green Cheeks are awesome little birds (who seem to think they are big!). River, my GCC, is very friendly and playful. He also came from a breeder who handfed him, and socialized him very well. What's his/her name? Do share some pictures when you can. :)

Feel free to ask any questions here about GCC or parrot behaviour in general, I'm sure we'd all be happy to help!

I generally disagree with birds for birthday presents, but you've got him now, so just take care and really believe this guy is your 'baby' something you have to care for for life!

My first bird was a birthday present too. *cough* >: )

Can green cheek conures eat tomatos. What are a list of fruits and vegies they are aloud to eat. I know some. Cause I am going shoping tonight and getting some food for him :)

As far as I know, it's the stems, vines and leaves of tomato plants that are toxic, not the actualy tomato.

I think Green Cheeks are great little birds. The first two months with your new friend might be a little rough, but it is very difficult not to fall in love with a Green Cheek. This can be the very best birthday present you ever recieved.

Well, I'm pretty sure they don't recommend the actual tomato also, because it is acidic or something.
