Good day everyone.
I am looking to buy GCC from a breeder, just got this photo.
Is this thingy on a beak normal for a GCC, am I overthinking it and he is healthy? :)

I dont know anything about the beak of a baby conure but that little bump or over growth of beak doesnt look like its normal to me but it could be from an injury perhaps that has healed . Hopefully someone else who has experience in this area will come along and be able to tell you more but I have read that a lack of vitamins can also cause beak abnormalities so perhaps this baby was born indoors and raised indoors without any UV exposure which might explain it. Hes a real cute Adorable little fello and I do hope it works out for you and for him.

His beak looks normal for a baby conure. Those small exaggerated "bumps" on either side of the beak are known as the tomium. As the bird ages, they should become far more defined and sharp, as their anatomical function is for "cutting" (it's known as the cutting edge of the beak).

If those small bumps do not regress and define themselves further, I would contact an avian veterinarian over concern of poor beak development. If breeders hand feed and don't place the syringe in the beak carefully, it can cause misshapen beaks. They're very soft when they first begin to develop, so any manipulation to the structure can cause deformities.

Well he is still a baby, tail feathers are not fully grown yet.
As I understand he was hand fed by a breeder.
So should I ignore this issue with tomium and get him, or you would suggest to search for a different bird?

I don't think his beak looks deformed in any way at the moment. If you're truly concerned, you could request for the breeder to have the baby checked by an avian vet and have written certification that the beak is developing normally. You may have to pay for the vet visit, but if it's a huge concern that's my recommendation. If you have no other reason to question the ethics of that breeder, then I don't see why you shouldn't be able to still get that baby.

I say his beaks looks perfectly fine... birds beaks constantly change and as he grows it will change... but lol... you do what I have tendency to do... when I first got my tiel he had almost white feet with black spots all over them... I have never seen a tiel with such odd colored feet and was worried he was sick or something so i posted on forums asking for opinions. As he grew up his feet though, his turned a very dark beautiful solid grey color.

That GCC is SUPER cute and so BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE the normals (it's my fav) I say go for it! :D I am VERY envious because I would LOVE to get a GCC but must wait a couple more yrs.

Hi all.
Didn't want to create new post.
As promised here are photos of Rico - he is 3 months old now :)

He is really an awesome GCC.
At third day he was already trained to do step ups, fly to me and back to his perch on command, now we are training to do turn around and potty :)
He likes to sit on shoulders and head also, however he doesn't likes to be pet -> anyways for two weeks I'd say we are having awesome progress :>

Rico is gorgeous!! I LOVE the normals :D

Happy you ended up getting him. I would love to see a video of Rico one day ;)

Adorable little guy so glad he is settling in so well and that you are so pleased with him. Gorgeous pics thanks for sharing them ..hes do cute :)
