A while back, I think, grapes from Chile were discussed as being "toxic" and had actually killed a few birds. I am so glad I had found out before I got Kiwi any (she LOVES grapes!!)........but at the store today, there are now grapes from Mexico. Are these okay???? Didn't get any.

Actually, that was my post about grapes, I believe. My vet states that all grapes no matter what country, even from the US are heavily laden with pesticides. The problem is the pesticide can enter the actual fruit meat through the skin. This also occurs in strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and fruits with that soft skin. He said I could continue to feed these fruits but only one a day. Actually, grapes with seeds are also better for birds too. The seeds have certain immune capabilities. One a day keeps the doctor away!

When feeding grapes, I usually only had given her one per day.......no ill effects.......and I couldn't tell you from where they came at the time. I'm a little freaked out about them now. Grapes were the first fruit that Kiwi accepted....now she eats bananas, apples, and a slice of tangerine, never did go for strawberries, etc. So...a grape with a seed is okay? Just not the seed.

Grape seeds for birds is fine. They actually make grape seed extract and many add it to thier birds food. I still give my birds one grape a day.
It is ironic but on the news tonight they said that the produce with highest pesticides for humans were celery, apples, strawberries and grapes.
Always wash you produse very well with an apple cider vinegar/water mixture and rinse well.

What about using grapefriut seed extract to wash them that ok?

Yep GSE works great!

I agree with you GC on both grapes and the GSE. Sometime this month the organic grapes will be on the produce stand. I almost always buy the thin skinned berries and fruit organic. Just got some cherries that are organic. It is a problem of buildup of pestasides in birds and I am sure us people.

Not just the grapes, most fruits are heavily laden with pesticides.
Make sure you clean and rinse, all fruit thoroughly before offering to the birds and yourself of course.

If I am using grapefriut seed extract to clean my friut and veggies how much do i use and how many of the friut and veggies can i clean before i have to change the mixture?
