My in-laws are needing to move their grape vines to another part of the property; there are about 6 rows with each being about 500 linear feet!

So- this is the giant pile I get to raid for making custom bird perches and play stands :D :D

Lots of big pieces like these- great for macs!!!

I picked through a small section of the pile and salvaged 2 wheelbarrow loads- and they are HEAVY!!! I definitely got my workout for the week lol

I've stashed them in a covered area for now so they can start to dry out...processing just this pile will take quite a while, but I want to go through the rest of the huge pile this weekend and take as much as I can...anything 1" in diameter and bigger.

My plan is to sell everything I make (maybe keep a couple pieces for myself ;))

Score! Looking forward to seeing what you make!

One thing I **really** want to make is a nice play stand for Chili- I've wanted to get something like a java tree for her but they're so dang expensive!!

Wow! Lucky you:) wish we were close because I would gladly trade my java stand for some of those:(Looking forward to seeing your creations!

I'll be kid-free this Saturday, so maybe I'll whip something up lol ...as long as they're dry by then. They were pretty wet and some caked with wet mud- the big chunks I got were REALLY HEAVY. Maybe I should enslave hubby to power wash them for me :D

wow im so jealous. my uncle grows a little grapes(he makes his own wine) but nothing like that. haha.

My in-laws planted these grape vines almost 40 years ago...they're trying to transplant ALL of them- I'm praying a good majority of them make it. They haven't made wine, but they make TONS of homemade grape juice every fall- white and purple. BEST grape juice I've ever had.

I am SO hollering DIBS on some of these. :D :D

I might have you test some out with your macs ;) -see how long a perch lasts hahaha! The wood seemed pretty soft- easy to cut with a handsaw...

I've been trying to figure out pricing for perch components...guess I need to make a trip to the hardware store :D

Oh I take them without any metals, please. Just long and VERY thick. They will harden, too, as they dry. ;)

So we have tons of grapes too. I trim and clean them back every year and have so much I throw away. I can't believe I never thought of this for my I an pets lol......is there anything special you have to do to them or just let them dry out?

Oh, you've made us so excited! We are going to do a garden this year and my husband was reluctant to grow grapes. Now he's on board with it! Lol ty

They need to be pesticide-free...so make sure your vines never get (or have been) sprayed!

My plan is to power wash them to remove any excess dirt, fungus, and bugs living on the outside. I also might remove the bark if it's easy....some people bake pieces that will fit in their oven- to kill off any bugs living inside the wood.

Haha! There's nothing like home-grown grapes and homemade grape juice!! And if you're really ambitious- homemade WINE! Lol

The vines can be used for many things- weaving them to make wreaths or baskets, the thicker pieces can be used as perches and play stands... Grapes have A LOT of DIY potential! :p
