As we are digging a bit further and doing more research before adding a new ekkie to our family, I am wondering if there are any differences in regards to their character/personality traits between these three subspecies. I am very familiar with the RS but much less so of the two others. I’d be very interested in what ekkie owners of these species have to say.
We’re still debating between a male and female...but we’re kind of leaning more towards a male ekkie.

I had a purebred Grand female, as I mentioned about her here in this thread. http://www.parrotforums.com/eclectus/53455-sincerely-how-living-female-eclectus.html Grands are hard to find in the US (I'm not sure where you live). Laurella Desborough was one of the people who did breed them, but when she lost my girl's father to an accident at the vets, she couldn't find a replacement. She definitely had high standards as a well known professional breeder, but my guess is they are hard to come by regardless of the quality. Mixed breed Grands are around though, but takes a very trained eye to discern what they are.

I would consider Grands and Solomon Island very similar though as was said finding a pure Grand is not easy. These two sub species tend to be the most stable and docile imo. When you hear of pairs that are so sweet they let humans co-parent with them it is typically the Solomon.
