We saved him from a bird fair. They told me he wasn't tame, yet he is socialized with humans and other birds and steps up onto my finger when I put it in front of him.

What are his colors under the wings? Looks like a normal green cheek conure. He has a bit more yellow on the front though but every bird is unique! Very pretty boy

This is a yellow sided mutation of a green cheeked conure

I feel like he could be yellow sided too but I think we need to see under his wings?

More pictures close ups. He has a bit of blue on the back of his neck and yellow and green pattern under beek. He was really good and let me handle his wings

I'm no expert in conures, but I don't think I've seen one that has feathers that are tipped in black? Is that normal for a yellow sided? And why so the feathers on his head look weird? is he molting / still young / or was he picked on by other birds? or something else

aww so cute! I would say with the extra yellow that it is in fact yellow sided. He trusts you a lot!

The previous owner let another conure pull his feathers out. :l and then told me he wasn't tame though he sits on my shoulder

Sorry if my questions came of as rude I am just curious. He seems happy with you and seems to trust you. He's super cute and I hope his feathers grow back in and he continues to do well with you.

Absolutely without any doubt a Yellow-Sided Green Cheek Conure...not any hybrid or weird mutation, but a Yellow-Sided Green Cheek...he's very cute! Congrats!

I need to go to a GCC variations/mutations/etc. seminar!
Any of you GCC peeps know of a good, accurate, coprehensive source?
I could Google it, but I would wonder about the authoritativeness, so I'd like a vouch-worthy recommendation from folks I know here.
:)

Congrats on the new family member. Looks like s yellow sided to me as well. Poor little guy looks stressed, glad he/she is finding comfort from you. Did the bird come with any documents? Like a clean bill of health.

He's adorable ! I hope he has a long healthy life with you.

@GaleriaGirl; I'm not an expert, but my understanding of green cheek genetics is that it's relatively straightforward compared to other species (like budgies). The color morphs boil down to 4 different mutations: turquoise, yellow-sided, dilute, and cinnamon. Different combinations create the different "types" of green cheek conure.
Green-cheeked Conures ? Avian Resources
This is a pretty decent source on it I think !

You forgot Violet and Jade in those mutations! Oh, and pied.

Feel like I might be missing a mutation, too...
