This morning as always .. I took my birds out and placed them on my lanai.. Which is completely screened in..( super screen) it A good size room with 20ft ceilings....
I then as usual go back in and pour myself a cup of coffee...,At which time all the birds start to scream(my birds never scream) and I hear a few flutter to the ground then a hard bang.. As we run into the lanai and pick up the birds.. I look up and see a rather lg bird laying on its side against the screen panels ... I used one of the pool extensions to bring him down.. It was some type of hawk.. It was still alive but looked dazed.. I went to get some gloves to pick him up... And while I was gone he got up and flew away....

I would hate to think what would have happened if the lanai wasn't screened..... it was less than 15 seconds from when I placed them on there set perches and walked into the house..before he made his move...

Wow that must have been so scary! I'm always worrying about a hawk snatching Fiji off my shoulder when we go for walks. I know hawks gotta eat too, but not our fids!

I remember seeing this a while back.. It's not the entire video.. As the hawk kept attacking ... Until help came and she managed to get inside with the bird.. I have to give her credit she took the hit and protected the bird

What a scary video! I would have thrown myself in front of the hawk to protect the cockatoo as well. I think we ALL would, to protect our fids! Just as we would for our human kids.

Raptors are smart, and unlike parrots they hunt to survive and try to take a easy meal when one arises. Hopefully the hawk won't try that again and will stay safe, as well as your birds :)

Greenwing... I really hate that video... because it's not exactly an accurate depiction of what *wild* hawks would act like. The birds in that video are *BOTH* trained birds, they are not wild birds. It's not to say that a wild hawk wont snatch a bird off of someones shoulder, but most hawks are not that used to humans.

I am glad though that your birds are safe! Must have been a frightful experience for all!

really glad to hear everything was ok, when i get my outdor aviary up i am defiantly going to have to watch for this kind of event... i worry about it, but i think i will make it hawk proof or as hawk proof as possible, we raise exotic peasants and we have had hawks rip heads off through like 1in by 1in check wire its insane...

Justin..I'm not sure what stopped him..The so called super screen or he hit one of the aluminum rafters.... I never saw what happened.. But flock must have seen him coming because I heard there warning screams..Then the bang and the fluttering of wings as they all jumped off there perch...

Well no matter what stopped him at least they are all ok.... And at least your flock warned you I know a few people's flocks that just sit there and act dumb and I have no reason why other then the think they are invincible or just plan being dumb. My guys scream at every little change that happens they think they need to warn me about.
