Got a question

It's kinda a general rule that female birds like male owners and male birds like female owners. It's not totally accurate because I got male GW that loves me.

I too own a GW Macaw (Neleno). I think the better question is are Macaws a one person bird and in most cases they are.
I don't think the sex on ones Macaw or sex of their human owners matters. Macaws see us as their flock mates and in extreme times, may see us as their mates.
I believe, a Macaw selects an owner over one simply due to the amount of time, attn, and takes care of their needs.
Cleaning their cage, feeding, bathing, and just playing with them.
The more you understand your macaw and feed into their needs, the stronger the bond you will have with them.
I too know of many cases where one macaw has bonded with one of their owners and one day, things change and the Macaw is now bonded with another owner.

Who really knows why these amazing creatures bond to humans in the first place but sure glad they do.
I hope this answers your question. Best of luck Joe

Hmmm, hard to call on this one due to how ours were raised. Our first GW was definitely raised/weaned by me, our 2nd I shared responsibilities withe the wife but I was the one that always came home at lunch to do the feeding. It was already pretty obvious the 1st one was developing a strong bond with me so we tried to "steer" the 2nd towards the wife. (both GW's are female). That didn't work out as planned and both are bonded to me although Deb can easily handle ReaRea. Now the Zon's are a different story (both male), I was told by the breeder to pretty much not interact with them at all so they wouldn't get to know me while weaning. Well that worked out all TOO well and they are both strongly bonded to the wife, I really can't do a whole lot with them but I keep trying.

My male b&g started turning on my spouse after four years and favoring me, now the spouse is long gone and the b&g is my shadow, meaning I can't go anywhere in the house (even the bathroom-sorry tmi) or out in the yard with out him on me or walking after me, even to get the groceries from the car out in the garage, he will open the inside door to the garage and walk out to the car where I am. Too bad he cant carry in a bag !

primary care taker wins I think, Remington was raised by a male for his first 13 years, and now is with me (female), doesnt care for my hubby...

I have only had male Mini macaws and my male RFM. My oldest Mihijo a noble macaw, loved Lupe even though I had him since 2 and half months old. I will admit my relationship was healthier with Mihijo and he looked at Lupe as his mate. Diego, Illiger's macaw male was bonded to me even though I am the terrible person who ripped him away from his home and made him come with me back home. It took him 3 weeks to forgive me and I believe if during that time Lupe took care of him he would of bonded to her instead of me.

Valentino is a 5 month RFM male and I am the main caregiver of him. Valentino is bonding to me and like Cami I cannot even go to the bathroom by myself without him flying in and landing on me. I end up setting him on the sink while I finish up but when I wash my hands he tends to jump into the sink for a bath. *sigh*. He loves sink baths.

I have never owned a female parrot so I don't know if females bond with males or males bond with females. I do believe that the parrot what ever sex will bond with the person of what ever sex that mostly takes care of them and mostly spends the time with them. I have seen switch take place in bonding with other people's parrots but not with mine. My oldest was almost 18 years old the youngest so far is Valentino.

I also think socialization has a lot to do with any parrot. Our Amazon was suppossed to only like females, but once we adopted him he leaned towards me. However my wife took to him and he reciprocated. He will play with both of us when sitting between us on the bed. He will also fly to either of us depending on his mood.

We have only had our Military Macaw for one day and she has immediately bonded to me even though a female is who she prefered before. Hopefully she will enjoy my wife's company as well.

I don't think it's always female to male, etc. Max :blue1: is male a LOVES my dad the most. He'll cuddle with me and my mom... but if he hears my dad coming then we pretty much don't exist any more!
