Our poor little buttercup kakariki died this morning. She'd been quiet for a few days but went downhill yesterday She passed away over night.
My husband had a good look at her yesterday in case she was egg bound and found an abdominal mass (probably a tumour)
So now Chilli is left on his own He seems ok today.
Doris was the second buttercup kakariki we've had and they seem to be highly overbred (they're a mutation). Unfortunately Kakarikis are easy to breed and so it seems lots of people do so but not always in a responsible way. I'm sure this leads to weakness and in breeding issues.
We'll miss her cheeky little face
