2 Indian Ringnecks, Tiki (DH's) and Pippin (mine), 1 lovebird, Gemma (DD's) and 1 in birdy Heaven... RIP, Wilbur.
My Pippin is not doing well with me being away for the past 6 days (crying and losing feathers) and I am thinking I could get a travel cage and bring him along at least some of the time. I am not typically away...just this summer has become a little crazy. My son has some specialist appointments that we need to travel for (driving and ferries) and I will have one professional event that I must attend for a week in August...but I could bring the bird if I had a decent travel cage.
Any suggestions?

We just went through this. I did a lot of research and the answer came back, "It depends on what you want." I ended up getting the Celtei backpack kind. I'm not sure your Pippin's tail is going to fit in there quite right. You could look into their tail attachment?

Option B was the Aluminum King's Cage. My wife was concerned with the 20 pound weight. Otherwise, it was pretty solid.

I really like the idea of the acrylic. I heard a story about an overheating bird that scared me a bit. If you go that route, be careful of the sun. You're bird might become an ant under the magnifying glass if you're not careful.

Have you travelled with Pippin before? I've read a few who support using collapsible dog cages once you get to your destination. I haven't tried it, but it seems like a good plan.

Good luck with the emotional birdswing.

Oh! Btw, check out ebay for prices on the aluminum cages.

At the rescue I volunteer at, we take the birds in a cat carrier size with a perch inside.

Pippin travels REALLY well, but I would need a cage for him to be in while we were at our destination....I looked into the Celtei backpacks but they are CRAZY expensive here in BC!!!

I always took my IRN in a cheap $20 parakeet cage for overnights at friends/hotels. I brought a lot of toys and treats and worked my bird up while I was there, so that she was more tired while I was gone and would just play with her toys.

Collapsible/Fold Away Carrier 18" - CARRIERS by MY SAFE BIRD STORE

This is the one we use, small, sturdy, not too heavy like a kings. Relatively inexpensive.

Personally I think the acrylic ones are dangerous and shouldn't be used at all, I find it akin to leaving a dog in a hot car type thing.

Kings are lovely, but heavy and expensive.

'Cheap' cages generally don't have a good base that is tied to the cage properly, which would worry me if the supports snapped, base gone and thus my bird.

Backpacks are great, but only for an actual journey I think, if you're staying somewhere, I prefer the one I linked as it doubles as a small cage too. Merlin stays in it when we go for weekends away.

Bird Supplies

This might help? I don't know if any place might be near you/website that might be worth investigating. I'm sure Kathy ships to canada? Or is it a case of a ton of charges for getting it across?

Neat thing about the cage is that it flat packs too for when it can go into storage :D

Yes...shipping to Canada is usually pretty expensive because, in addition to shipping costs, there are "duties" tagged on when it gets to the border... Thank you for all your suggestions, I will definitely keep an eye out for something like that...I love that it collapses for storage!
