Good bird treats?

I've got a young rainbow lorie. I want to train her to do tricks but I don't have any thing to give her as a treat. Other than eating normal bird food, she only eats pears & watermelon. I've tried giving her tiny pieces of watermelon or pear but she either takes ages to eat it, or she drops it. For the moment I've been just saying 'Good bird' as a praise but I feel that its not enough. What do I do? Thanks :)

Lories and lorikeets really can't eat millet, so millet is kind of out of the option....

What about using sugar free fruit juices? Or a special kind of nectar? Have you tried other fruits?

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I didn't know that lorikeets couldn't eat millet. Learn something new everyday:)

I should correct myself and say that they really can't have seeds. If they eat some, it's ok, but it's not good if seeds are a regular/large part of their diet. They eat predominately nectar and have fine bristly tongues - which look really weird! But unique, to! Pellets aren't necessarily great for them either, due to their dry/hard nature.

I hope that some lory/lorikeet owners pop in and see this thread and maybe have some other ideas for treats for these beauties!
