I can't find a definite answer on how long they live. Some sites say 20-30 years, while others say 50+. What do you guys say?

Not that it matters that much, since I have no idea how old this one is. One site said that macaws' eyes change color with age. This one's irises are mostly red with a little bit of yellow. Another site said that with these guys, the yellow collar gets bigger/brighter.

Any ideas? :)

There's the average lifespan, the expected lifespan and the potential lifespan. At least, something that I've concluded.

So to say... a yellow collared macaws average lifespan may be 20-30 years (poor diet, bad environment, health, environmental toxins, accidents, etc), expected lifespan may be 30-50 years, but potential lifespan may be 60+.

I really don't know... but I do know that many budgies and canaries die by the age of 6 years old. Expected lifespan of a budgie is at least around 12 years of age, but both species can potentially live to be 20 years old.

A cockatiels average lifespan may be 8-12 years of age, expected lifespan 15-25 and a potential of 35 years.

It really varies.

Thanks! That makes sense. I was just looking for a ballpark estimate.

I don't know how old this one is, but I think it's definitely been a grown-up for a while. It seems to know how to communicate and handle humans very well. He knows to pinch, but not bite, when he wants to communicate that he doesn't like something.

I think he's potty trained too! I just realized that he hasn't pooped on my mom or me once. I had him on my shoulder for a couple hours tonight, and he didn't go the entire time, until I put him in his cage. I'm going to have to start giving him potty breaks.

It would be great to know how long they'll live, but their lives varies just as much as us humans.

I don't know how old my cherry headed conure was either. He was estimated to be some years younger than myself, but for all I know, he could have been older. Same goes for a tiel I have. Wish there was some way they could tell us!
