Hi Everyone,

So I'm making great progress with Baby, but I'm not having the success id like, in terms of food. I know Scott mentioned in another thread that Cockatoos can be stubborn to trying new foods. When I brought her home, the previous owner gave me a bag of tropical blend food (nuts, dried fruit, pellets and a few other things in it) she seems to really like that food, but I didn't want to give to her all the time because too many nuts. I do take out some when I give to her, but is this type of food okay? I did give her pellet food and she ate some and played with some. I made her some veggie chop with sweet potato today and she took some of the the sweet potato but ignore veggies. She doesn't seem to like veggies. She shreds them when I've offered 😂. It's kinda funny, but I would like her to eat more nutritious foods and fresh veggies. Sometimes I offer things and she looks at me and tosses, again, too funny. Here I'm excited and making her the best I can and the bird just tosses. I have to admit she's cracked me up doing it, but she's missing out on some good food. I also gave her nutri berries, which she seems to really like. I would just like some advice or schedule on how to feed cockatoos so they get all the right nutrients. My Amazon loved veggies, so I'm a little confused 😂

All of my Goffins like veggies and fruits, but would prefer seed and pellets given the choice. They don't have a choice - it is for their own good!

Mine each receive a bowl containing orange, apple, green peas, blackeye peas, cooked carrot, a variety of beans including garbanzo, lima, black, and kidney, corncob, yam, sweet potato, edamame, pear, banana, pomegranate seeds, melon seeds, watermelon, cooked whole wheat spiral noodles, etc. Not every item is given everyday, and some are seasonal.

The bowl of seed/pellets is removed when the fresh food is served. Very important!! Fresh food is removed after 5 to 8 hrs depending on temperature.
While not every bird likes all items, they are still offered because they may toss something for years or decades but one day try and enjoy!

Parrots are flock eaters, and Baby likely considers you a member. Prepare a small plate for each of you, present it and eat from yours. Show her how good it is by bobbing your head, making "mmmmmmm" noises. Offer her an untouched piece from your plate. You have to get creative and persistent!

Great advice Scott! I can't even count how many times i've offered something new to one of the flock and had them look at me like I'd lost my mind until after I took a bite myself.

"okay pet human, make sure master parrots food isn't poisoned. Good human!!!"-Confetti

Jonesy my Goffin was picky about veggies and such, but as Scott mentioned, let Baby have lunch with you. I do this with BB the tiel, its the only way he'll eat his nummys
