My poor rescued canary Gigi had a major bleeding problem earlier tonight, actually I'm surprised she's still alive. She has a slit in her leg, it looks like she wanted to remove her leg band because even while bleeding she was picking on her leg.
She allowed me to take her out of the cage (was probably too weak to protest) and put corn starch on it to stop the bleeding. I then put her in a tiny little hospital cage and gave her some apple and seeds. An hour later I carefully washed her leg and dripped some cool boiled water on her beak (she drank it). I'm keeping her warm (around 80°F) and I'm sure the other birds in the room are sweating!
She's resting in her cage now. Will she be ok until tomorrow or do I have to keep hydrating her through the night? Gigi has lost at least a teaspoon full of blood
What is it with me and bleeding birds
