I have just gotten a hand fed Quaker Parrot at Thanksgiving that was 8 weeks old. He or she has been very friendly since except now the bird is getting a little nippy and I believe it is going through a molt. can anybody help me out is this normal for Birds when they go through molt?

Molting can cause some irritation and aggravation, yeah, but more likely, in my opinion... is a baby testing limits! I don't have a lot of experience with birds (just a lot of experience with ONE bird!), so I'll wait for experts to weigh in. Meanwhile, you might use the SEARCH tab to look for threads dealing with Quakers, nipping, molt, etc.

Glad you found us!

Good call by Gail, it's probably a combination of both. He's been with you long enough and is comfortable enough to start seeing what he can get away with. Then a molt as well, which makes them very itchy and irritated, especially if you touch the pin feathers in the wrong direction because that hurts...

Quakers can be naturally nippy as well, I have a male blue Quaker that I got at 9 weeks old at the beginning of July, and he's a big baby, he has never once, ever, ever bitten me seriously. But he is CONSTANTLY nipping, or maybe chewing is a better description, on my rings, my bracelets, my ears, my hair, my fingers, etc. He doesn't do it hard at all, but it's annoying sometimes. I've spoken to other Quaker owners about this and apparently it's a pretty common trait in them...

This is Lita Ford (yes, I was told he was DNA tested as a female before I brought him home...Wrong!!! He's going to have an identity crisis!!!) He's my little clown, he and the green cheek conure are a handful together! They love each other and Lita is talking up a storm, he pretty much repeats everything I say, and he has the creepiest evil genius laugh I've ever heard...
