Parrots
Amazon
Galah
Hi!
I am getting my first Amazon but she won’t be ready for about 7 weeks or so still. I was told I should get my Amazon in the same sex as my galah because they are different species, is there a reason for this? Is it even true? Just want to do right by my birds.
also what is the best size cage for a Amazon?
Thank in adfor the advice

No idea about the sexes, but having 2 broody females may not be your idea of heaven.
As far as cages. get the LARGEST one you can afford, there is no such thing as too large. There is such a thing as a too small cage though. It should be big enough to allow the parrot to fully extend his wings in any direction and even allow short hop type flights.

Make sure you accept delivery of your new parrot after it has been eating solid foods for at least 2 weeks and make sure the breeder is not force feeding the babies. A good breeder will allow the parrot to make the switch to solid foods on her own (called abundance weaning). Also a good breeder will allow the parrots to fledge fully and even learn to fly, which is good for their self confidence and psychological well being.

I would say to pick the sex of the bird you want.
male birds have a more aggressive reputation.
with females there is potential egg laying issues .
