Always remember that its never the Amazon's fault, never! Its always your fault!
Next point, you do not own an Amazon! You are owned by an Amazon!
Socialize, socialize, socialize your Amazon! You do want to develop a Bond, but your target should be that your Amazon will go to almost anyone!
Make sure that you are ready to bring your Amazon home. You have the food you need and the dry foods has been in the freezer for at least a month, if at all possible.
Hi Jimdc and welcome to the forum I can hear and feel the excitement in your post. Congratulations on being about to add an Amazon to your family I have never had the privilidge of having a Blue Fronted but I do have a White Fronted Amazon called Mr Biggles and I can tell you Amazons are Amazing and they very soon become the very heart of your home...they are real fun birds who enjoy lots of interaction and once you get your baby you will be embarking on a relationship of trust that will if you have patience reward you a thundredfold and fill your life with laughter and fun and all the joys of Parronthood. To prepare for this journey you couldnt get better advice than the advice given by Sailboat in the post above. Enjoy the forum
Hi Sailboat thanks for your advise! I have been reading the first thread a few times. I can't go see my baby as the breeder is in England and I live in Scotland it's a 6 hour round trip. The baby will be fully weaned and harnse trains when I get it .once again thanksWelcome the the Wonderful World of Amazons!
Please take the time to read the First Thread in the Amazon Forum regarding Amazon Body Language. Once your baby is home, read the Thread aloud to you baby everyday sitting next to the cage or on your leg, perch or where ever. The goal is that you learn to understand your Amazon and your Amazon gets comfortable with you. Amazon's Love to be read too!
Always remember that its never the Amazon's fault, never! Its always your fault! By approaching your life with an Amazon, this base of understanding will allow you to quickly determine what you are doing wrong and correct it. Also, it allows you to target what you missed as part of the Amazon's body language. Point being, you have to learn their language!
Next point, you do not own an Amazon! You are owned by an Amazon! There is a reason for the statement: Amazon's Rule! It has multiple meanings!
Please take the time to visit your Amazon as often as you can so that you can begin developing a relationship with your Amazon. Be there as often as the Breeder will allow.
DO NOT RUSH to bring your Amazon home! You want your Amazons to be FULLY weaned on to solid foods! If your Breeder is the type that only releases an Amazon after it has fledged that is even better.
The cage is large and filled with real branches as perches, there is a ton of toys for your Amazon to create tiny pieces from, etc...
Remember, Amazon's Have More Fun!
Ah, Scotland, my second favorite place on Earth. Was there last in 2013 for 2 weeks as a birthday present from my youngest son. We did the big loop from Edinburgh going counterclockwise. Sadly we missed Glasgow this trip, But I;ve been there twice.
Rough town! Almost as rough as NYC, except instead of guns , they have straight razors. Still true?
