Hi there i'm a 10 year ekkie experienced parrot mom and that being said I just put a deposit down on an ekkie baby and should find out the sex in a week or so... that being said I need name suggestions!! If it's a female I'm thinking Poppy but more suggestions are good too, I really need help with male names! Thank you in advance:green2::red:

Oh, I love picking out names for my pets. I cringe whenever I see a bird with a person name (sally, George, ugh, come on people!) or fruit names like Kiwi or Mango, just stay away from those, lol.

Poppy is really cute for a female. But don't be afraid to go outside the box with a unique name. Pick a name that speaks to you -- maybe a city you have visited or grew up in and love, do you have a favorite musician, actor, movie, book you love that you could pick a name from. Or a hobby that you enjoy that could also play a part in a name.

I also love name choosing! I try to have unique, fun names for my pets. Back when I had cats, they were Conan and Ranger (after the band Night Ranger). Chihuahua named Godzilla (we also considered Kong, Marmaduke, and a few other ironic names that were a little different than the typical Bruiser). My parrotlet, Bumble, got her name when a breeder told me they were the size of a bumblebee when they hatched.

For a lady ekkie I would avoid Ruby, and for any parrot I would avoid all the fruit names as itzjbean pointed out along with Peanut, Charlie, Enzo, and Rio. Those are names I run across frequently on parrot Instagram accounts [emoji1]

Good luck!!

Here are some of my animal names....

Boo - my whiteface cockatiel, he's white and grey and likes to fly around the living room and then land suddenly on you, boo!

Ember - my pastelface pearl cockatiel, he's all speckled and has an orange cheek patch.

Zuko - my red 100 lb. Doberman - from my favorite show growing up Avatar the Last Airbender, Zuko, prince of the fire nation!

Miyuki (mee-you-kee) - ragdoll cat, also a character from Avatar the Last Airbender, a cat in the earth kingdom

Meeko - my other ragdoll cat, named because he looks just like the raccoon from the movie Pocohauntas.

Welcome! I'm so excited for you!

Names? Well, when I got the Rickeybird from the bird store, he was saying "hello, Rickey" and "Rickey, oh, Rickey". Rickey was the name of a macaw for sale at the same time, and it yelled its name a lot. I was unsure if he'd ever learn any other words, so I just left it. Decades and many words later, I wish I had named him something cool. Funny thing... he doesn't even say his own name anymore, although he says everybody else's, pets included.

Is it too late to change it?
Yes. lol

For your new bird, I'd consider something from its heritage. Solomon Islands (Sumba, New Guinea, Maluku Islands) or the indigenous people or culture.

Just nothing based on its color. No more females named ruby...

For a male, I like Kai. Would have named my boy that but felt obligated to give him something closer to his name at the time, Porker. So he became Parker.

Mala for a female would be nice. I love Gail’s recommendation of something indigenous to its geographic origins :)

Here are the names of my birds, maybe you'll like one of them haha.

Sebastian, Feathers, Violet, Alice Grace, Echo, Pandora & Pascal, Kiya & Kiwi, Lime & Lemonade, Chloe, Charlie, Chyna, Casper.

One of my dogs is named Nuke, from the "nuclear waste" he leaves in the yard. [emoji1]

I follow a gal on Instagram who has a large aviary and one of her budgies, named by her toddler, is Snuggle Pancake. That’s probably my favorite bird name ever.

The Star Wars geek in me wishes I'd called my Solomon "Solo" now! :)
