STINKY.
I am the perfume lover. The person that used to have air fresheners all over. Now that those are gone, I have a Very musky bird who poops frequently. And I live in a teeny tiny house that I think may have been built for smurfs. So.... PF experts, what can I do about the smell? I don't have a lot of expendable cash right now given what happened with the vet last week.

(By the way, I am so happy to write about this subject and not something terrible like her being at the emergency vet. She is doing MUCH better!)

Carolyn, what is stinky about Georgia?

I must say that both my Macs give off a very nice odor, and I love burying my head into their feathers.

I know Georgia is still a baby, so perhaps the musky odor is from the formula?

What about baths? Has she had any yet? When I first brought Ripley home he did NOT smell too tasty, but after his first thorough bath his odor improved much. He had his second bath over the weekend and he now smells great.

This has been on mind mind lately. I just purchased a small warmer that I use with tealights(unscented).

It is safe to presume that if the label states "100% essential oil" that it is safe to use?

I wear readers, so I cannot makeout the tiny font listing the ingredients. Thanks.

That was my question cami, are oils safe? I have an electric diffuser and would love to use that but haven't because I didn't think it was safe around the birds.

essential oils are very bad for birds! so are air fresheners, and candles because the wax in candles can get stuck in birds lungs and build up over time and some have lead wicks which are bad!!! I use lemon juice and water mixture to freshen up my bird room just mix it half and half and spray in the room OR boil apple peels and cinnamon sticks on the stove barely cover it with water and once dissolved spray that around the room.

I love the fruity smell my macaw gives off~ how often does he bathe? I like using orange peels, cinnamon and cloves on the stove

Georgia is very musky. If I give her a bath/shower then she is much better but she gets a very strong musky odor after a day or two. It's STRONG!

I've heard of people using soy candles. Don't use it in the same room just in case your bird

The boiling suggestion of orange peels, cinnamon and cloves is great!

Same thing, mixing lemon juice with water and putting it in a mister.

I use a air filter myself and Pocket get's regular showers. My air filter has a "Purify" and "Refresh" option on it that clears up the air really well.

Also ensure that you are cleaning the cage regularly too - my Hahns is an insanely messy eater so it's not uncommon to change the papers in his cage twice a day. You can also use a vinegar, lemon juice and warm water mix when cleaning the cage. Either that or AviCare - it's hospital grade cleaning agent designed for birds. We also vaccuum around the cage twice a day to get any food scraps/mess to discourage ants.
